Well the way the education standards are going, it wont be long before most of the kids that do their whole schooling in Australia, will be unemployable anywhere else.
It wasn't many years ago that Australian trained tradesmen, engineers etc, were chased the world over, due to their broad based knowledge base and skills set.
Well that is fast becoming a thing of the past, the way things are going, basket weaving will be a university course.
The really funny part is, some people wonder why parents go without to send their kids to private schools, at least there they can demand to know exactly what is being taught and move their kids if they so chose.

The German training is extremely high, as was Australia's back in the 70's, 80's etc, I met a lot of great tradesmen and most moved on to greater things.
The recent products of our competency based system, which was introduced in the 90's, IMO leave a lot to be desired.

Found it depended where the apprentices came from (electrical instrument) Alcoa apprentices tended to be very good technically.

I am with Rushdie. Roald Dahl is meant to be difficult, he would be furious with the changes.
They did a poll on the ABC and it came out 87% against it. To me it is defacing art.
