Good point, Vancouver has gone that way definitely, I was there in May and caught up with friends, they weren't happy with the mega appartments.smart cities ( or some other fancy name )
you can see what is coming if you think about the news without just believing it
you can only hopeSo the trade/economy dynamics is very different, but having said that, there was a very strong Asian small business presence, so maybe the Asia tie is stronger than the U.S tie?
Corporate ownership of rental properties rather than "mum and dad" type investors along with a physical change in that rentals become mostly apartments (or flats as they used to be called).'m expecting a huge call in this space, I don't know what it will be, but the issue is so big it has to attract some sort of action IMO.
Does anyone else think so, or am I just over reacting and over thinking?
you can only hope
we have been a US lapdog for so many years , we are more likely to be the next cannon fodder ( just like my uncles were in Egypt and PNG in WW2 )
It's actually worse, big corps exploit every loophole possible and have the money for legal fees. This style of living in the US is a mess because one entity owns so many apartments it makes it easy for acquisitions by developers to occur and then throw everyone out on the street when the land value goes up.Corporate ownership of rental properties rather than "mum and dad" type investors along with a physical change in that rentals become mostly apartments (or flats as they used to be called).
That effectively frees up freestanding houses for owner occupiers and creates a clearly defined two class society.
One day we might wake up and smell the roses, they control us in so many ways people don't realise.you can only hope

I keep banging on the WEF..what does the wef plan for us?One day we might wake up and smell the roses, they control us in so many ways people don't realise.
If you take a trip to Brisbane or have taken trips over the years you’d be alarmed, at the amount of ugly high rises, they seem to be racing each other to constructs the most towersWe recently came back from a trip to Canada and I couldn't get over the massive apartment blocks surrounding the train stations, then today I noticed this headline in the Age.
It made sense, but it looked really weird when you come from Perth.
Council slams being shut out by state over plan for $1.6b tower project
A mayor in Melbourne’s east says her council only learnt that the planning minister had approved a huge development project when staff saw a news report.www.theage.com.au
We were staying in a AirBnB on a normal streetscape 1km away from Metro Town and you would swear you were in Perth, then you see this.

But all around it is like normal suburbia, then you go to the next station on the sky train and there is more mega rise apartments.
We went for a run on the sky train to the end of the line, basically out in the sticks and this is the town centre.

Maybe that's the way we are going? It makes sense, as long as the prices, reflects the drop in amenity.
actually i was thinking Mad Max in the rural areas and Judge Dredd in the big citiesThis thread is starting to make me reminisce about the movies Mad Max and The Planet of the Apes.

. Another few decades we will just be another high density concrete jungle. Like a modern day Eastern European block like Ukraine
Brisbane investor?Damn this thread has got a dark cloud over it , Brisbane will be Ukraine , haha . Ukraine wishes . Carry on in the dystopian haze
not any more , i went West but not as far West as @farmergeBrisbane investor?
Brisbane has treated me well in a few ways but mostly lifestyle but it certainly hasnt harmed my finances . I am not a born and bred Qlder and have lived in 3 australian cites and spent time in all of them . I will never live in a different city now although i will more than likely move to a semi country evironment in a few years . Brisbane has been a great place to live . Its made me very happyBrisbane investor?
This guy nailed it , not many in these types of threads do . Property doomers are rarely right and even in the time they should have been right ( rising Rates ) , they werent ( yeah i know , migration ) . It's a tough gig being negative on property in Australia . I will add while net yields are near half rates i wouldnt be buying but the trend is still solid so what do you do . Sell into it ?The future of Australian property prices? Up, up, up and away.
We will be proud to call ourselves one of the most expensive countries to live on earth, and foreigners will say, "I've heard it's really expensive in Australia, but the people are really nice and the weather is great, and I think you get paid a lot".
Love to know if anyone can see a real trend bender here, but I'm afraid I just can't. Inspite of obvious asset and consumer price rises Australia is still cheap.
I've lived in Brisbane a total of 16 years too, Perth ATM.Brisbane has treated me well in a few ways but mostly lifestyle but it certainly hasnt harmed my finances . Brutalism certainly applies to 90's / 2000's Brisbane but not really so much today . And leftist issues are nationwide and probably more prevalent in that large city down south . For sure Perth has been isolated from much of what happens over here but it's coming your way 100% . How long since you been here ?I've lived in Brisbane a total of 16 years too, Perth ATM.
I quite like the city and the coasts all for different reasons. It's Hell on wheels for my particular job however. Could possibly retire there when I'm ready, if I don't p1ss off overseas.
I do think that the years of leftist rule and resulting brutalism hasn't really done it a lot of favours though... personal opinion.
3 years.... And oh yes the Victorian proletariat has suffered this to a much greater degree, to the point of Stockholm syndrome.Brutalism certainly applies to 90's / 2000's Brisbane but not really so much today . And as a comparison, Perth has not suffered Soviet style brutalism, but it has suffered from an Orwellian Style psychological lobotomy.3 years.... And oh yes the Victorian proletariat has suffered this to a much greater degree, to the point of Stockholm syndrome.
