The completely useless irrelevant thread

2023, glitz and glamour

I think the caption writer was being sarcastic: "paired", "completing her ensemble", "accessories"

"She had chosen a grey t-shirt featuring Mickey Mouse on the front, paired with dark pants for her attire on the trip. Completing her ensemble were grey sneakers and a pair of gloves as accessories."

Had a phone call from a local company that specialises in subdivisions recently.
A rather large tree had fallen onto a newly erected fence (not built by me) and they needed a repair job done in a hurry.
When I asked why the contractor who did the job wasn't doing it, was told he wasn't interested.
Well, I've known this mob for a long time and never been given any of their subdivision work, so I thought it was rather odd.
Anyway, job done, happy client.
Even happier contractor as he paid me a lot more than I would have charged.

The Amazon River, the second longest river on earth, has no bridges across it.
Can't believe that the Chinese have not caused at leat one of the African countries that border the Amazon to go into enormous debt by building them a no stings attached free bridge across the Amazon.

Woke up this morning and went out to feed the parrot.
His cage was open, and he was nowhere to be found.
In his place on the perch was a small drawing with square on it.
Then I realised it was a polygon.

Do we have an icon for <groan> ?

African????

To remember the order of taxa in biology (Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species): "Dear King Philip Came Over For Good Soup" is often cited as a non-vulgar method for teaching students to memorize the taxonomic classification of systems.

@mullokintyre African countries and Amazon River two different continents. Perhaps you are thinking the Nile River!!!!

"Any pal of yours is a palomino"

- from "F Troop",

... but who said it? Cap'n Parmenter?

The more astute among ASF members may have noticed that my musings of late have been making less sense than usual.
Spelling mistakes, typos, geographical errors in the worlds rivers etc etc.
I have had suspicions that I may have been slipping into dementia (actually it was my wife's suggestion).
This morning it was confirmed.
In this cold and inclement weather we in Victoria find ourselves in, one of the few pleasures is to make some steaming porridge for breakfast.
My favourite recipe is add a liberal dob of honey to the oats, add mlik, start to cook and the add a sprinkling of ground cinnamon for that extra tang.
This mornings porridge was awful.
It seems that I was careless enough when reaching into the spice rack to omit reading the label and sprinkled chilli powder instead of Cinnamon.
Lucky for me I tasted it before my wife had a chance to try hers, otherwise you might be reading my obituary.

1971 was a very good year for me, personally.
Lotsa great things occurred, generally an excellent year.
For the rest of the world, it appears things were not so great.
Last night I came across this website WTF Happened in 1971 ???? .
It would appear that something happened in 1971 that caused some significant perturbations in the cosmos.
The above web site has a myriad of charts that highlight the massive changes in so many things starting in 1971.
Here are a few.

Edited because I pasted the same chart twice, replaced one with a different chart.
Another seniors moment.

So people worked harder and didn't get paid for it.
