So are you saying Labor shouldn't have raised wages and tighten conditions for the lowest paid?

Should they just continue the Coalition policy of lowest paid being part time with reduced safety provisions in their work place?

If Labor hadn't kept the stimulus and immigration pumping, inflation wouldn't have taken off the way it has and the pay rises wouldn't have been necessary. It was a case of have a recession, or pump inflation, Labor chose the later.

Now the lowest paid can't afford rent and are waiting for public housing, the middle class have had a drop in living standards and the elites have had a great time with their property and share values increasing dramatically.

You can dress up your story any way you like, but it doesn't change the reality, lower and middle Australia are a lot poorer.
The Government has had record tax receipts, which is good, how it spends it will be the deciding factor on whether they get back in or not IMO.
Constantly giving handouts to mask the real cost of living, can't go on forever and the general public know that.

To be fair, that's the expected outcome. Inflation transfers wealth upwards and destroys the working and middle class.

Workers aren't as silly as politicians seem to think. There's no shortage of people in the trades and manual work who are consciously aware of that and for those in the professions well fair chance they studied at least a bit of economics at some point.

Talk to some random workers digging up the street or whatever and they absolutely grasp that governments handing out money to address the cost of living isn't a solution. As such people will tend to put it "that money's got to come from somewhere, it's not free and they're going to tax us to pay for that".

But cost of living relief is not sustainable in the long term and the Gov will have to find other sources of revenue while they fix the real problems.
