Was listening to Susan Ley the other day who wouldn't answer the question why Dutton reissued a visa to the person that successfully ran the high court case, the hyperventilating was painful to listen to.

So, who is going to try and oust Airbus next year? I think he's had his chance and has stuffed it.

I don't think it will happen. Albanese has stumbled lately, but he is still their best bet for a second term. I don't think the other contenders are much chop.

Anyway, following the fiasco of the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd years, didn't the Labor party change their rules to make it very difficult to oust a leader?

If they've learned their lesson, he'll contest the next election and probably win with Greens support. But, I don't trust politicians to learn any lessons at all. They are all cunning, power hungry, narcissists. I'm absolutely certain that Shorten is thinking he was hard done by and could do better.

We're looking at a really worse case scenario at the next election with Labor needing the Greens to form a government. Yikes!

Student Activist back in the day ... Unionist ... Federal Parliament ... Prime Minister.

It was never going to end well. The first three are composed of prize bullshitters who can leap past lesser bullshitters quite easily.

Once attaining the fourth, the incessant glare exposes all shallow men.

As with Morrison, and now Albanese.

I never called him a bastard, the bastard.

gg

The next election must be held on or before September 25 2025.
Its a full 18 months away.
A lot can happen in that time.
its a brave person who makes a call this far out.

I agree but I don't think I've seen a honeymoon end so quickly.

And, I don't think Dutton is PM material but can't see an alternative.

The only good performer I've seen the past 12 months is James Paterson.

There really is a dearth of talent in politics.

In my view it comes down to the working and middle classes feeling that nobody's listening to them as they slowly but surely slide backwards.

Employed but still homeless. This just shouldn't be happening in Australia and it's time for governments to put fixing it right to the top of the list:

It's not as though working people aren't paying plenty of tax after all:

next put a surcharge on overseas property buyers,
Spoke too soon. ;)

Foreign investors to be slapped with huge penalties for leaving homes vacant

Foreign investors who leave property they own vacant will be slugged with charges of upwards of $169,000 under a federal government plan to free up more housing stock.

The federal government says that next year it will try to legislate a tripling of application fees for foreign investors to purchase a property, and an increase to penalties for vacant homes that would amount to a sixfold increase to the rate.

Those vacancy fees would continue to apply solely to properties purchased since May 2017 and which are not put on the rental market.

Be interesting to see how they can fine people for having a vacant home.
That should cause a few laughs, why isn't it rented, cause I can't find anyone who will to pay $20,000 a week.
Well make it cheaper or we will fine you, I don't want to unless the Govt makes up the shortfall.
Sounds like a pre brain fart pressure building excercise to me, time will tell. Lol
Also have they checked with the legal department, that it isn't discrimination to treat foreign investors differently to Australian nationals, or will that be another high court challenge?
At least the article says 'try and legislate', let's be honest Australian Govt's aren't good at this lateral thinking and legal stuff. Lol

They've already got things in place to catch out B&B owners and people claiming tax deductions by strategically avoiding rental occupation. If you have a vacant rental with high rent and it's not within the median rent of the area the tax department swoops on you, they also have dob- in lines.

It's fairly common for Chinese to buy houses and leave them vacant and let the house get rundown. I had one next door to my rental, their trees and shrubs grew over my yard and onto my house, the smoke alarms beeped non-stop until the backup batteries went flat, and the weeds and grass grew higher than the house until it became a neighborhood collaboration to spend a few days cleaning the place up.

That's the sort of housing problem that needs to be sorted out.
