Subtle Humour

The joke is that the people who most need to read the book will be unable to because there attention span has been shot by the computer they keep in their pocket and can only watch little videos. (OK black humour)

English humour is typically witty, at times mischievous, and always subtle and understated (to the point that it often goes over the head of non-British people).

The most classic example I can think of comes directly from the former monarch herself, and is a true story.
The Queen was walking in the grounds of the Balmoral Estate in Scotland, accompanied by her Royal Protection Officer (bodyguard). They were approached by two American hikers who clearly didn’t recognise her (she had a headscarf on) and struck up a conversion.
They asked her if she lived locally and she said “Well I live in London but I also have a house near here and have been a regular visitor for many years”.
The Americans then asked if she’d ever met the Queen during any of her visits over the years. Quick as a flash the Queen replied “Well I haven’t, but he has” (pointing to the bodyguard).
They then asked him what the Queen was like and his reply was “Well she can be a bit cantankerous at times but she has a great sense of humour”.
After several more minutes of general chit chat the American pair asked if they could take a photo of them with their new-found friends. The Queen duly obliged and posed for a photo with them, after which they bid each other goodbye and went their separate ways.
According to the bodyguard the Queen then said “I’d love to be a fly on the wall when they’re showing their holiday photos to their friends and someone recognises me”!

So droll... Indeed. Perhaps a few other alternatives for the punchline ?

News Limited ? Andrew Bolt ? Donald Trump.. ? Quite interesting that such a meme should target the ABC as a purveyors of lies.

that
It could be directed at most mainstream media, it is just that the taxpayer funds the ABC, so I guess there is a higher expectation of them as they don't have to bow to agendas to get their income, but unfortunately they do. ;)

You know what SP? I think its a brilliant load of poisonous merde..

For the record. For reality. For truth. The ABC does not tell lies. But clearly destroying the ABC's credibility is a top line priority of some organizations.

The cleverness of the meme is the writer posing as the " Man of Truth" and noting his poor demented friends/father as believing the lies of the ABC. It is a cleverer version of Trumps "Fake News" manifesto where he managed to successfully undermine millions of peoples respect for reporting of events that he didn't want people to accept. That line been very successful.

It does remind of a similar satire I saw years ago. It was used when commenting on the political stories run through the Murdoch Press

"Is that true or did you read it in The Sun ? "

Oh for heavens sake Bas, take ya blinkers off.
Just have a quick look at the number of defamations that the ABC has lost or settled before it gets to court.
Just the most recent case of the four corners team attending the Climate failure fest at the home of woodside CEO.
Firstly they enied that they were tipped off. Which they had to clarify.
Then they denied being on the property until security camera footage was shown of reporters tanding in her driveway.
Once a again a "clarification" was required.
The ABC is no better tha any of the other MSM goons.
the difference is we are forced to pay for the ABC whether we watch it or not.

You are always going to get a skewed version of the "truth" when only one side is presented and unfortunately that is why people get very agitated and tribal, because the media is very polarised and present extremes, which in turn polarises viewers and why our politics swings from left to right.
You like the Guardian and the ABC, because they lean heavily toward your beliefs, others like Murdoch press because they lean that way, it doesn't mean one is right and one is wrong, the "truth" lies somewhere in the middle.
