Australian (ASX) Stock Market Forum

Stockwatch application

At some point it may become a forum in its own right

After some consideration (and consultation:)) I have decided to turn the 'Trading/Investing Resources' forum into a regular forum and not a subforum of 'Beginners Lounge'.

Hi Transportable,

Can you please tell me what the error was or be more specific about what happened.

Regards

John

Hi John,

Very nice, easy to use program. Thanks for the opportunity to use.

As it is in Beta, I assume feedback of bugs are wanted :).

On the Tools - Options Window, when changing the "High Alert Colour", it changes that requested colour in the "Low Alert Colour". But saving and reopening the Option window shows the wanted colour scheme.

Its a small glitch, I know, but thought you might want to know.:D

thanks for reply John
I am now using a different computer and can't even download your application I'm sure it is because I don't know what I am doing. No one else seems to be having trouble.

I click on download on your blog and nothing happens. :banghead:

Hope you can help

Thanks T

Not your fault at all Transportable.

I am not only new to stocks and shares but I am also new to writing web pages. This is my first attempt.

The page is hosted on a Linux OS which is case sensitive. I spelled the download file StockWatch instead of Stockwatch.

Give it another try and let me know how it goes.

John

Hi John,

Great little application you have compiled there! Tried it in my office today and ticks along just nicely - many thanks for sharing!!!

One thing I noticed however is the value for "PriceMove" seemed to stay at 0.000 regardless of the share price movements.... possibly since it's running through my companys office intranet maybe something stuffing it up???

Great work though - a lot more useful than my msn money macro running in excel!!!

Cheers,
Scotty....

Are you referring to the PriceMove displayed in the message bubble. If so this is a bug that is fixed in the next release.

Thanks for the comments. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Regards

John

Hi John,

Sorry - not in the bubble.... PriceMove column in the main app'n

Jeez - you'd be great at software support if you start your own software house, only took a few minutes for you to get back :)

Cheers,
Scotty....

Great stuff John,
thankyou for making your work available...
With regards,
Scuba

There is a new version of Stockwatch at jskinner.110mb.com.

There are a number of other files used by the program now. Make sure they are all included

As an example, if you extracted the contents to your Program Files directory you should see the following directories and files.

I hope you find it useful.

Program Files
Stockwatch.exe
Stockwatch.exe.config
Microsoft.Practices.ObjectBuilder.dll
Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Common.dll
Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.dll

Connectors (this is a directory)
etrade.con
connectors.txt

Files (this is a directory)
Versions.txt
TODO.txt

Hi John,

Thanks for the new update - nice!

Is it possible (in theory :D ) for a user to modify the Connector file to use other brokers?

I guess you would have to find the correct URL to a broker to add to the .con file.

Cheers SB

Just updated the web site with Beta version 0.3. To fix a few bugs that I introduced yesterday.

SB, To answer your question, it is not only possible in theory but in practice as well.

Stockwatch gets the list of brokers that it can use from the names of each connector file. E.g. A connector file called ETrade.con will add a broker called ETrade to the list of available ones to select from.

I did it this way so that users could add their own brokers and not need a recompiled program from the programmer.

However, you will need an understanding of regular expressions.

John

Please not that the using connectore files is really a test. It may not be usefull for all sites. Especially sites that display their data in table format.

Stockwatch version 1.0.0

Stockwatch version 1.0.0 has been uploaded to jskinner.110mb.com

The main feature is the ability to enter triggers as a percentage value of a base price as well as a dollar value.

I have written this program as a training tool to help me learn about the stock market but feel free to download and use the program free of charge.

If you have any bug reports, questions, comments or suggestions, you can post them here or send them to the email address in the help/about screen of the application.

I hope you find this of some use.

Regards

John
