Regardless of what research I do, it appears to me that share prices go up before a company makes a positive announcement to the market and they go down before a bad announcement is made. I thought that shares were supposed to go up after a good announcement and down after a bad announcement. Am I missing something or just doing the wrong research?

A lot of the time it'd be due insider info, in that respect there's not much you can do about that. Though sometimes you can guess when positive news should start rolling out depending on where the company currently stands with their projects

depends on the announcement and if there are stale holders just waiting for news and liquidity to get out

mining stocks have many sellers waiting to sell on positve drill results

Why would you think that?? What evidence do you have for that statement??
