Hi ALL

How do the experienced ones get their announcements on the stocks they are watching. In the past I have missed a few opportunities by not being aware of ann ´s a few minutes old! By the time I should visit the news page of each stock on my Etrade watchlist it would be time to do it again.

So I assume pros get anns real time. Yes? No? How?

Westpac have a alert system that will send a txt to your moblie. I'd imagine other brokers would have the same.

I just go to the ASX homepage and all the important news goes there, it gets updated as soon as the news is released, but I need to keep refreshing it to see the updated news. Probably not as quick as real time, but much better than going through each of your companies on etrade.

thanks for the quick replies everyone,

cc does power etrade have the option of giving you anns just for the stocks you are watching?

Hi toc bat. You don't need Power E(sometimes)Trade. Just set up a watchlist in Etrade with your preferred stock codes and regularly refresh. Announcements of the past 5 (I think) days are shown and a click on the link will get you to the company announcements.

This is fine if you want to refresh. Otherise a watchlist in Power etrade will let you know when news is released as soon as it hits the ASX. I have never had problems with Power Etrade, its provided by IRESS.

Cheers,

If you are only interested in news and you don't want to pay anything for the information then I find Google news works great. Search on "yoursharename" location:australia, and you'll get a list of articles from all the major online publications in Australia (dating back up to 2 months). You can then take the RSS feed option and plug it into a reader (Feed Reader or RSS Bandit etc.) and it will download the articles at your designated refresh interval.

This solution works well for building up an archive (similar to what AFR Access will charge you money for) of news articles published about a given company over time.

The catch is that you won't get AFR Access articles as they've hidden them from public (Google) view. Having said that you will get the SMH and The Australian which being Fairfax publications usually provide sufficient overlap to get the gist of what is going on.
