What's your opinion on the resource stocks for both short and long term? I'm particulary interesting in your personal opinions on BHP, RIO, HDR, WMR, WPL STO or AWC

I believe that the resouces sector has great long term prospects. I cannot give individual recommendations, however, I can say that I have reduced my bank stock holdings and am investing in WMR and AWC and looking hard at RIO and STO.

I like HDR and since I got in at 1.91 I'm very pleased with today's move. There is some risk involved with their drilling program but the potential is rather nice. It may look a bit expensive now but if the drilling is successful then this could be a very nice hold for a few months.

Overall ressources are in for a nice smooth ride if everything continues this way. China will probably just increase its demand for more coal, oil, aluminium, iron and gas. I can't see them slowing down much, even if they may wish to do so.

BHP is already pretty high and some profit taking could take place soon.

Happy trading

Even if China scales back,(remember the worlds fasting growing economy) there will still be considerable demand for our resources and it seems for a lot of metals that there might be a bit of a shortage due to the fact that demand will exceed supply till some additional new mines come into production. I am holding a fair bit of cash right now and will continue to search for some good resource stocks at the momment I hold NMC,CBH AND PEM a bit specky.
STO looks good though went through a bit with that fire at Moomba and looks now that its finally coming back and possibly might go through $8.00 if it continues its upward trend. You just missed the divvy on it though.
STO looks very tempting.
Good luck .

Hi All,

I noticed HDR about a week ago and knew that Woodside was going pretty well, so I bought some at 2.12. I am Pleased with todays move too
:D
I have had my eye on ORG for the past 2 years ever since I had to do a project on them at uni!
Anyway glad I found this site.

Hi there,

I can't make any recommendations but I hold HDR (see the other thread on HDR). There's the HDRWMI warrants for more leverage (and risk) as well, they expire around Christmas.

Hi Guys,

With Resources being in the spotlight, and Oil prices, having a pullback...

Woodside Petroleum - appears to be trend channeling...

With the Technical Charts below, WPL is looking very attractive, as a Long Option Position.

****

though fundamentally, with the issues of Oil Prices, could this have any significant effect on WPL share price, dropping in value, due to Oil Prices coming off?

Cheers,
sis
