NSW Election 2023

I only care about the policies and it looks like a tale of two taxes at this early point :)

Coalitions' property tax option against Labors' removal of stamp duty for first home buyers.

What's holding up the release of the Berejiklian report by the NSW ICAC ?

Gladys is no longer in Parliament so if it's finished then it should be released, and if she was still in Parliament then it should be released.

Something fishy here ?

Nothing fishy about it at all.

What the hell is going on today with all the journos telling ICAC to hurry up, there was on stupid lady in the SMH today laying the blame at their feet.

Do they have amnesia? Everyone who was paying attention was warned: if the Libs cut the funding for ICAC it will threaten their independence and effectiveness.

There you were, here we are.

So the budget cuts are fishy.

You just have to google ICAC in every State and they all have issues with their ability to function, just another level of bloat ware in Government IMO.
They should be independent of Government.:2twocents

Sources familiar with the IBAC probe, known as Operation Daintree, told The Age the premier and some of his advisers had been a key focus of the investigation, which is looking into how the money was promised to the union despite objections from Health Department officials.
The inquiry is the fourth Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission investigation to interview Andrews during his current term of office, but the first known inquiry to closely query his actions.

This series of events plunged Queensland into what may be its biggest integrity crisis in decades, ever since the corruption agency was established after the Fitzgerald inquiry into the Joh Bjelke-Petersen government.

But this isn’t just a Queensland story. Across Australia, anti-corruption watchdogs are being called into question by political forces subjected to scrutiny at the same time Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese battle over the creation of a federal version.

Quite a bit of white-anting going on, when governments don't like scrutiny. When governments hold the purse strings you wonder just how effective ICACS can be.

Thanks @mullokintyre for sharing this article https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-13/dominic-perrottet-digs-in-amid-nazi-costume-storm/101851782 in a different thread.

I saw the post from @PZ99 and was going to respond with my own weird position of fully supporting the Libs on the cashless gaming card policy and taking on ClubsNSW who is currently in the process of ruining whistleblower Troy Stolz life, against Labor replacement robot Chris "not against cashless gaming cards we just need more studies" Minns. Minns cruised to power after Luke Foley was deposed as NSW Labor leader for "racism".

Thanks to this article, we can see the Nazi outfit news for what it is. ClubsNSW with their hand up David Elliotts puppet-hole, revenging themselves on the NSW Libs for daring to oppose the giant proboscis they have inserted into some of the most vulnerable people in our state.

oh lol

One of the seat warmers in the NSW upper house has lashed out at Perrotet after being disendorsed in favour of a more acceptable gender.
From Evil Murdoch press
The third NSW Liberal MP dumped from the party’s upper house ticket has broken his silence to lash out at Premier Dominic Perrottet, saying his notion that “gender-identity politics would impress the electorate” is flawed and unmeritorious.
Liberal Legislative Council MP Lou Amato was one of three Liberal males – including Legislative Council President Matthew Mason-Cox and MP Shayne Mallard, removed from the party’s ticket as part of a cross-factional deal in late December that saw three women promoted in their place.
It never ceases to amaze why the cross factional heavyweights in these matters do not sacrifice their own positions to ensure a gender rebalance, but I guess that would be asking too much. Not sure anyone will miss Tudehope or Kean.
I suppose Amato can at least have the honour of not being a party apparatchik, given he has owned an Automotive business for many years before entering parliament.
But the good Mr Amato is hanging it on the wrong bloke.
Orchestrated by Treasurer Matt Kean and Employee Relations Minister Damien Tudehope, the arrangement was initially rejected by the party’s state executive before being passed by members on the second go.
Matt Kean is as nasty a political operative as one can find. He will do anything to get power, and for reasons I have never really understood, he seemed to get away with the sexting scandal between him and another female MP. His then girlfriend, who worked as a senior staffer for then PM , Malcolm Turnbull, outed Keane by photographing the texts. She was immediately fired by Keanes good mate Malcolm.
Politics, just seems to attract sewer rats.

Sewer rats should be offended by your comments ;)

Why, are they that bad?
The corruption and excessive taxes. I'm still seeing the same old dodgy pr1cks in positions of power. Libs are corrupt but it's not so bad that it interferes with your business. Labor is a continued shtstorm.

The inner city Labor members are completely removed from reality. The same mess is there from 20 years ago along with the added mess of woke brainwashed authoritarian idiots that want to drop a million rules on you.

From a distance, it appears to me that the NSW Liberals have been doing a good job. Polling looks pretty average though. Bad luck they haven't got Gladys. I don't think it's a given though.

Obviously the Gladys and Dom scandals have affected polling, but basically nothing is known about the Opposition apart from Chris Minns and even he isn't particularly visible.

Where do Labor policies differ ? We haven't heard much.

Biggest policy difference so far is housing tax.

Coalition wants first home buyers to have a choice of either paying stamp duty or a land tax. I don't like the land tax because as I understand it, once a house is on it, it's stuck with it and that tax will increase as the land value increases. It's exactly the wrong thing to do because it's just another recurring expense for people who struggle with loan repayments.

Labor wants to drop the stamp duty outright for property under $800k. I don't really like that either because it'll stuff the budget... the vast majority of NSW budget surpluses over the last 20 years were from stamp duty windfalls. So expect your greenslip and rego to go up instead.

In terms of scandals both sides are full of it and both have played a role in bringing down their federal Govts (Gillard and Morrison). If Labor gets in it'll be more of the same.

Having said that I think people are looking for change after 12 years of the Coalition. People complaining about lack of wage growth might remember the rot started with this Govt when they froze public service payrises at 2.5% and that cancer then spread into the private sector and ultimately attributed to the LNP loosing the federal election. When you combine this with ridiculous housing prices in NSW you can see the Dom Govt suffering the same fate.

Anyone got any recommendations who we should vote for ? Asking for a friend :)
