Hi guys,

I have a dilema and I'm not sure how to handle it,

Clearly alot of people follow my research, but I am worried they are blindly following my research, so I am going to edit my signature to make it clear that I am not a fincial advisor etc

The other problem is that alot of people are PM'ing me for some sort of private breakout list or something,

The only reason I considered doing this, is that unfortunately shortly after I post my research for the benefit of all of us ASF'ers and so we can discuss etc it gets poached by others and posted on other forums, these people are only interested in making a quick back and will pump and dump, I don't want to become associated with these sort of sotck movements,

Stocks I pick have long term value and while there will always be ups and downs, the re-rating should be gradual AS IT USED TO BE, and not like this, just day trading crazy!


I really really would like to see ASF be locked so that only members can read the individual stock threads,

Either this or maybe a new section created which is locked under fundamental research, or something like that?

What do you guys think?
 
best way to do this is putting a minimal fee on membership, the money not only will go towards to the site's maintainance, also prevent others pinching research materials done here. but the problem is that the fee will significantly reduce traffic flow on the site/forum. I guess Joe js need to see if the benefits out weights the downsides.

I have a suggestion that may interest you.

The developers of this forum software, Jelsoft, are in the final stages of developing a very sophisticated official blogging add-on. I'm pretty certain (I have just asked for clarification over on their forum) that you will have the ability to exclude not only unregistered visitors but also ASF members who are on your ignore list from reading your blog. Perhaps this is the sort of solution that you are looking for.

I am anticipating that this add-on will be released within a month or so as it is now in its final testing phase. I plan on installing it as soon as it is released.

Something to think about anyway.
 
I agree mate, I think the best thing about ASF is the balanced views and posts. These HC sheep are a bunch of idiots and the last thing i think we need is a exodus from HC to ASF.

I too think only members should be able to read posts.

But realistically if people want to blindly follow you then i would say let them do what ever they want and not worry about it. I can't believe that someone would actually privately msg someone they don't know asking for tips though

Call me old fashioned but i thinks its rude, not to mention the fact i would feel a bit inadequate if i felt i had to rely on other people to make my decisions :
 
How about putting a membership to just a small part of the website. That way reduction in traffic flow could be avoided, and public discussion could still go on.

Also, a long research post could have an embedded watermark, words rearranged, etc. unique for each member (or a group of members, if more feasible) reading it... that way people pinching research could be eventually identified. I know IEEE are doing that with their pdf documents (this task is much easier with pdfs than plain text). If you also combine this with a requirement of a few months of membership to the ASF before viewing or joining the paid area one could weed out the research stealing.
 
There is some research here that is better than what many pay for. I guess paying for something though demands you come up with the goods.

The only option I can see is that some research posts are submitted to the administrator and posted by the administrator once scanned for ramping etc so that the original author is not known. It would not be then an automatic follow YT or whoever scenario. It would help if some consistent formatting was required to disguise personal styles. The administrator may not agree though!!. Thankless job.
 
YT i can only speak from my own personal experience, i am a new investor and i find your research informative, thorough and based on good fundamentals i merely take note of what you look for in a company, so i can look for the same things in companies i am interested in. I have not, and would not, buy a share solely on what you interpret. I think others should take the same out of it, use YT research mechanism as a blueprint and apply it as you see fit. If people are following you blindly, then they obviously have no significant value of the $$$ they are investing. Your track record is impressive but you would admit you are not infallible, as you can no more control the sentiment of the market, than i can the rotation of the Earth. I hope you continue to share your work, i have learnt much in a short space of time, but at the end of the day you are another investor to me, who happens to have success based on your excellent research. We should aspire to be more like you in your knowledge, not follow you. Cheers mate

I have just checked and you can:

1. Exclude unregistered visitors from viewing your blog.
2. Exclude those on your ignore list from viewing your blog.
3. Make it so ONLY those on your buddy list can view your blog.

However, that said, I would not exclude the possibility of bringing in a 'ASF Members' forum that was only viewable by registered members, if there was a demand for it.

First of all why is every person trading? to make money. The faster you make money the better, so if all you have to do is buy a stock that someone else has done all the research on and it hasn't cost a cent why wouldn't you? Young Trader you are the one who has caused this chain of events. Ask yourself why are you posting?A. Is it as you say to discuss the stock?B. Is it so others can learn to trade successfully,C. or is it a social event.( Trading can be very lonely as it is only you and the computer). If it is A then post no analyisis on the stock and get other people to give you their analysis on the stock. Throw in red herings, stocks that are likely to tank. Guarenteed to put people who are trying to make a fast buck off the scent.B
post analysis AFTER the event. C. A bit of both and D. Talk to someone who has been in a similar situation.
 

Well said, my sentiments exactly. I am very appreciative of YT's research but I know I am responsible for undertaking further research and for my decisions.

I also see YT's dilemma - I even saw someone refer to him as a cult figure over at that other place! It is getting out of control - as soon as he posts something it is cut, pasted, intepreted, mis-interpreted and downright lied about.

YT's research and the way he shares it deserves to be treated with respect and I think the monster is getting out of control and something needs to be done. Otherwise ASF will begin to lose itself to the wild mob and I would hate to see that.

I know it must seem like a dilemma YT but at the very least it is one hell of a compliment to your work.

agree people should be following up with own research.

yt has led me to a few great companies, one of which i still hold JML.

anyways you do great job yt, maybe joe should change your nick every two months to keep ahead of the masses! lol

I think there should be a nominal annual fee for premium membership.

Credit to you Joe, and the mods for making this forum a valuable place, where views can be shared without diverging from the original topic.
 
Hey guys thanks for the feedback,

To be honest I started posting becuase it was fun to be surrounded by like minded individuals, I have learnt alot from other ASF'ers and am still learning, you need look no further than my early posts to now to see the 'growth' in my understanding, however I still have a long way to go.

I think that making it so that only members can read posts is a good idea Joe, I don't think I'm some Guru at all, I just see fundamentals and am somewhat lucky with timing etc, I just got worried at what was going on at HC, someone told me what Spottygoose said that peeps copied my post and said hey YT says 40c lets go blah blah blah

I'm glad that most on ASF do their own research, thats what I like, the people who poke holes in my research and make me think hmmmm am I getting a bit carried away with my "rose glass vission" etc etc

Just think of the movie departed... no just joking...

You can only do things that make you happy and some times there are other people who want to ride on your success...

That said YT you do great work and I have learnt a lot from you.. I think you need to do what’s best for you....and if posting to friends is it then great.

I guess what I'm trying to say is we all have our own way of chewing the fat..

What ever you choose, thanks for your input I'm sure we have all learnt from each other through one and others experiences.

Joe, great site mate... You manage to keep most of the rampers out... But I do agree only members should be able to read forums... Just my 2cents worth...
 
Why does it really matter...if your self esteem is good Y.T., then you wouldn't care what other people think about what you express. Its only people with low self esteem that get all emotional about what others think.

Something I am learning right now...grab any self esteem book, and you will notice that the higher your self esteem is increased, then the less you actually care about what others think of you.

Its amazing how little people actually really care...but we tend to over-dramatise everything in our heads...
 
YT not sure why it bothers you that others are paying so much attention to your research.When SHARES magazine started, often a stock would move enough to get a speeding ticket from the ASX because of the information published on the magazine and in fact the companies affected said just that.

Instead of complaining of others pinching your work why don`t you try and make a living off that by having your work published in a magazine.That way you add another string to your bow.Just a suggestion.And you make money wheter the pick is good or not!These forums after all are meant for sharing so I`m not sure I get what you are complaining about,unless of course it worries you that someone can hold you responsable for their decisions.In which case the discalimer should do the trick anyway.As for the people PMing you,just don`t answer them back,or refuse to give them information that you feel is inappropiate.What would be the point of these forums if they all become cliques ,to me that sounds a bit like high school,where you have the in people and the out people.At the end of the day we all make decisions that suit ourselves and if some people are using your research exclusively for their trading they can`t possibly be understanding too much of what they are doing it.

To be honest. I am one of the followers. Maybe a little bit of blind. But I am keep learning. Try to read announcements to figure out the critical date and data. Try to learn Charts.
I am feel luck follow you in these days. Though I made no money because of timing problem.
But I think two or three month later. I can pick a stock. I can questioning YT.
