No Anti-Virus? No Internet...

Well, now, Matty. If they are going to filter what we may access (without letting us know what it is), and have ISP's record what sites we visit, this is just one more small step in the government getting into your life.
Give it about a decade if this lot remain in power, and you'll no longer be required to make any choices at all. The government will have it all sorted for you.

It's a scarey thought Julia but we get closer to it each day.

I particularly liked the bit earlier this year that will allow the Government to do your tax so you do not or will not be able to go to an accountant to get all your benefits back, can't see that biting us in the bum lol.

Well it's all starting to add up -

- Getting control of a national broadband network.
- A national Firewall with a blacklist no one(except a select few) can see or modify.
- Compulsory recording of net activities ( will it be a goldmine of data
for govt depts, marketing cos etc. , industrial espionage & any miscreants??)
- Checking of pc security sw ... how? .. only using govt approved sw??

What else do they want to do?

nationalise everyone's PC?????

I don't see how cutting victims off the net helps them. Just victimises them even more.

The idea of making it mandortory for ISP's to offer filters was a good idea. It gives parents the option. Although, enforcing it on the entire network is dictative.

The election's this year. I don't know when. Hopefully soon.

Australia going the way of a communist nation...nahhhhhhhh :

You think that's bad? Have a look at this...

Obama internet 'kill switch' proposed

US President Barack Obama would be granted powers to seize control of and even shut down the internet under a new bill that describes the global internet as a US "national asset".

Local lobby groups and academics have rounded on the plan, saying that, rather than combat terrorists, it would actually do them "the biggest favour ever" by terrorising the rest of the world, which is now heavily reliant on cyberspace.

The proposed legislation, introduced into the US Senate by independent senator Joe Lieberman, who is chairman of the US Homeland Security committee, seeks to grant the President broad emergency powers over the internet in times of national emergency.

The scary thing is, there are people out there who agree:

Senator Susan Collins, co-sponsor of the bill, has said: "We cannot afford to wait for a cyber-9/11."

Lieberman argued the bill was necessary to "preserve those networks and assets and our country and protect our people".

There is no way this will happen in the near/short term. But I fear this sort of thing may be in our future...

Govt & Big Business Get F****D
Finally I have a small amount of joy for all those techno kids that seem to know everything when it comes to this stuff
they'll have it cracked within 3 days
long live radical youth

I can never see this happening. Can you imagine businesses ceasing their operations around the globe because Obama said "no more internet"? The sheer economic loss makes this plan ludicrous. Even Americans can see that. Can't they?
