Hello All,

Calling all Metastock users!!!

I've currently got a problem loading charts and would welcome some help :(

When I try to load a chart, only the last 2 years of data is displayed even though according to the first and last dates, I have data for the last 7 years!!

I have checked the [load options] while attemping to load the chart. The current settings are "Load 500 periods, display 250 periods". I have tried changing these values to encompass more periods but once the chart is loaded I can still only see the last 2 years of data!!!!!

I have also tried to change the [load settings] to prompt me for dates when the chart is opened. However, when I load the chart, I do not receive any prompts and instead once again only the last 2 years of data is displayed!!

I have tried loading different charts containing various years of data but when each one is loaded, only the last 2 years of data is displayed!!!

I really have no idea what the problem is

Any help much appreciated....

Chorlton

PS. UPDATE: When I change the display period from Daily to Weekly, more than 2 years of data is displayed!!??!! However, when I return to daily, the display returns to only 2years. Can anyone explain why this is happening and why I cannot scroll on the daily timeframe and see more than the last 2 years???

I know this won't help but I have changed my 'Load Options' to be Load 5000 and display 2500 and mine shows fine.

Out of curiosity, when your screen displays with the initial stock, is the minus sign in trhe circle (bottom right hand of the pane, is it selectable, or do you have a horizontal scroll bar after you load the data?

My only other guess is that if you load a stock you have added lines or text to and saved, I believe it opens as you last saved it, or possibly if you load with a template, the template may be interferring.

Hi Chorlton,

Have you ever managed to load more than 2 years of data?

Daft question I know...but if you've never managed to load more than 2 years into a chart then you need to confirm that you have more than 2 years of data available. Otherwise the root cause is likely be something like the download settings from your provider.

Hi Brett,

I've tried changing the load options to 5000/2500 but with no luck :(

When I load a stock, there is a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom which allows me to err.. scroll ;-) but I can still only see the last 2 years.

However, your point about templates is interesting as I use my own defined one so maybe this is causing the issue. I shall take a look.....

Thanks for the quick reply..... :)

Chorlton, are you double clicking the x-axis and modifying the date ranges?

Hi Gorilla,

This was my first thought as well but when I change from Daily to Weekly display I can see more than the initial 2 years so the data is definately there. I just cant convince MS to display it on a daily. :banghead:

The only solution I can currently find is to change the periodicity to "other" and then change the display scale within there. Only problem is for some reason MS doesn't remember the new setting so when I open MS again, I'm back with the same problem!!!

You just beat me regarding posts!! Yep, thats my current solution but MS doesn't seem to remember the setting when I restart it.....

But at least I do have a solution for this........

Thanks for the help.........

If you know how to use regedit, check this key...it might not be changing as you think. You can also check your open settings here....

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Equis\MetaStock 8.0\FileOpenOptions

For normal reconfiguration, these options are set like the following,

Main Metasock Window, File -> Open -> (From New Window) -> Options -> Load options -> <configure here>

For mine I have load 3000, display 200

Looks like your load options were set too small initially, however under normal MS reconfiguration you should not have an issue changing this.

The folder MSSmart as per watchlist can be deleted, which contains previous default and custom 'applied' stuff, although not sure in doing so this will resolve your current issue.

HI,

I had a new hard drive put in my computer late last week and yesterday I started putting various programs back on the computer. However I have got one problem presently getting my Metastock program to fire up but I keep getting this message coming up on the screen:(.

MS = Xs.jpg

I bought the Metastock program (disc) and all the books from Thomas Reuters (brand new) a couple of years ago. Although I have little knowledge about computers, I was wondering if the cause "originally licensed on a different computer" was due to the new hard-drive? - I have never used the disc on another computer...

Does anyone know what is causing this problem?

Any help would be much appreciated;):)

Cheers

Try metastock support on - http://metastockaustralia.com.au/contact.html

It thinks your trying to install on a 2nd computer when you only have a single user license.

Hi Caveroute,

Thanks for your advice. I have just sent an email to the site you mentioned. Funnily enough they are only about 8 km from where I live, so if I don't get a reply within the next day or two I will go in and see them.

Thanks once again.

Hi,

It appears that I now have the same issue/problem has Chorlton had when he started this thread. In that when I have tried to load up more "LOAD OPTIONS" via the X Axis Properties - to look at the stock(s) history over a greater length of time.

I have used the Apply button and ticked the Retain Scale both separately and together. However, I still keep coming back to the dates as shown in the image. I have tried it on the weekly & Monthly scales but it didn't make any difference!!.

Can anyone point out where I am going wrong and more importantly what should I have been doing?

Thanking those in advance of their replies.

1. Go to wherever your data is and delete all files in all of the mssmart folders. These are all charts that you have opened that Metastock remembers and retains, lines, comments and size of charts etc. (see pic below)

2. When you have done 1 above go to "File", "Open" and then in that window select "Options" in the top right corner, then "Load Options" and check what you are actually loading before you start altering the display axis etc. (see pic below)

If all of that doesn't work I guess you will let us know.

Hi Boggo,

Thank you very much for taking the time out to help me in my time of need!!

Here are 2 images of what I have on my system (which unfortunately) doesn't have the options button as you do:confused:. When you referred to where the data is kept I presume you don't mean The Downloader? but the pages I have shown? If not could you please advise?

Once again thanks for your help and I hope you (or some other kind hearted Metastock user) can put me on the right track(s).

Yes, they are the mssmart folders. What Metastock does is records each chart that you have opened so that if you draw lines or place comments etc on a chart it will be there the next time you open that chart.

Delete the contents of all the mssmart folders, don't delete the folders as Metastock will need to start using them again when you next open a chart.

After you have cleared those folders out then start Metastock up and go FILE - OPEN and you will see the OPTIONS as in my second pic above, click on that that and one of the drop down options will be LOAD OPTIONS which will bring up the load window as in my post above.

Set you load and display parameters in there and all your charts should now follow those instructions.

Hi Boggo,

Sorry for not having replied to your last addition to the thread. However, I have been overwhelmed with doing jobs for other people & getting other things done for myself this side of Xmas. However, I hope to get on top of everything by early next week and I will follow up on your excellent advice.

Kindest regards
PB

Hi,

I just checked Boggo's detail box and it appears he hasn't been here for the past 10 days, so I was wondering if anyone knows if he will be back soon? Or is there anyone else here who is Metastock savvy?

Actually it appears the advice Boggo gave me hasn't worked:( but then it has taken me 16 months to get around to putting it right:rolleyes:

Basically I'm trying to extend the data beyond the 2 years it is allowing me to do on the charts presently.

I would really appreciate any advice on trying to correct this problem asap.

Cheers
