Part of helping people with mental health issues is supporting them.

Is he being managed properly? no idea.. Is he stable? probably not..

Does your thuggish, immature post and type of attitude actually help people, definitely no.

I have found that when I go to gaol that one meets a better class of counsellor than outside.

If young Matt does go down for this, I would recommend " The Creek", at Stuart. It is known as Townsville Correctional Centre now, but to those of us who appreciate the quality of its many courses and the academic rigor of its graduates, it will always be the Creek.

If his beak could delay his entry until March/April, he would not have to suffer the intolerable lack of airconditioning.

It also accepts entrants from Victoria.

Dont be too hard on him tigerboi...below is a post that i made dated 1/9/2010 on ASF.

I saw him interviewed on TV recently, he is now diagnosed and treated, but unfortunately this affliction can be extremely severe, it accounts for a very high % of suicides.

He is a very unwell man. I did laugh when he said he hadnt been using drugs though, although I suppose you shouldnt admit to it on national tv

Interestingly, he stated lifetime risk for Bipolar Type 2 is know regarded as 6%..up from 1%.

Very few people understand the way this illness manifests itself.

Take the case of Matthew Newton..a more obvious case of unstable Bipolar could not be found, so why do they just not come out and say so?

It sounds like he is psychotic, which can lead to persons becoming violent

Abuse of many recreational drugs leads to a psychosis so similar to other pychosis that up to 2 weeks in a mental health unit, detoxifying is required to stabilise the patient

There is a high correlation between personality disorder, substance abuse disorder and bipolar in the past, and they are difficult to treat if they wont stop abusing recreational drugs, or adher to other aspects of a good mental health care plan"

you obviously havent seen his interviews...he admits nothing & wont man up to belting his girlfriends...= low life

as for thuggish behaviour yep 100% i want to make him bleed let him see what it's like to be scared like his girlfriends...

he is just a weak mongrel going for breaks using mental issues to escape real punishment...

I find it funny how these little blokes who bash girls and 66 year olds, say they can't control themselves.
You don't see them losing control of themselves and bashing a 6' 4" 120kg bikie.

When he's feeling like an episode is comming on he should go down to the local clubhouse and run amuck, get it belted out of him. A bit of thump therapy would help. LOL

He is not mentally ill just spoilt. If it was anyone else without the help of the family name and lawyers he would already be someones bitch and that should set him straight. Lol
 
Dont get me wrong, beating a women is disgraceful.

He did admit it, with great shame. He also said he had found himself in many other fights, including with an ex-boxer who smashed him.

You can still be an ar$e, mentally ill or not, maybe he is.

When he was being interviewed by Tracy Grimshaw, I couldnt believe that she kept asking him whether he could assure everyone that he wouldnt be violent again.
This showed a fundamental lack of knowledge

He dogged the question, he should have given the correct answer, which is no.

Anyone who has seen what happens when someone is psychotic, would never ask that, doesnt matter if you are man, women or child, a psychotic individual can do anything, including harm themselves and others.

They have lost control of their mind.

How would you like to have a global, incurable illness, that means you cannot trust, or even not know, your mind to be in touch with reality? How would you feel if it was your brother, son or friend?

I would say that he surely must have been diagnosed well before now, and refused to acknowledege it and take the required treatment... if I could tell 'for sure' just from reports of his behaviour over 12 months ago, an experienced psychiatrist would have certainly made some sort of diagnosis.

I didnt like the look of his situation in that interview. Not at all.
From what he did say about his diagnosis and medication regime, I would say his condition is at the more severe end of the scale. I do not doubt at all he is suffering from severe mental illness

The general situation with someone in a manic frenzy, is they may attack anyone who opposes them, including armed police.

It is estimated that over 75% of the prison population have various mental illness, and thats the ones who arent deemed bad enough for confinement in a psych ward.

He is not taking responsibility for his own actions regardless of mental illness.

I am tired of hearing that mental illness is an excuse for poor behaviour as it puts to waste all those that have a mental illness and manage to have a normal and controlled life as best they can.

If he is so mentally ill, put him in a hospital and leave him there.

How about you man up and put, on this public record, your real name, address, phone number, and every indiscretion that anyone could possibly dig up on you.

Then we add in a mental disorder, and see how you then respond to this.

A little understanding of where he is coming from can partially explain his answers to questions. OF COURSE, in an ideal world, all criminals would admit their crimes on national TV.

Go on, name EVERY illegal activity that you have participated in, and give your details on this forum.

Tired of people using the excuse of mental illness, wait until you have suffered years of torment before you make judgement on others.

I have had those years and I accept no weakness or excuses, there is plenty of resources and people to help if you just man up.

Look maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but every time I see this guy after a fight. He doesn't have a mark on him.
There are a lot of people in society that after a few beers, loose their inhibitions and want to bash someone, usually it nearest and dearest.
Maybe it's mental illness, maybe it's an excuse, you have to live through it to appreciate it.
 

I would agree with all that, except its not so easy to stick them in hospital and leave then there

Yes, strange you may think but I agree with you on this also, as I have before, but some are less sturdy, and accept weakness and excuses, maybe even call them reasons.

Maybe you did this too before you became more enlightened..and I do not mean that to be in any way derogatory or sarcastic.

For some it seems, a self-destructive urge burns furiously. I saw that look in him.

I can't recall asking this of you, and for the poster I was asking it of, it was in an attempt to make him/her understand the position that MN is in, and that what is said can be a legal minefield, and, unlike people with mental ilness, he is in the public spotlight.


A judgment? what like what you are doing? a little bit of empathy goes a long way when it really matters.

OF COURSE MN should not bash anyone, but he IS sick, and comments like from the poster above do nothing to sort out the problem, what they DO is to make negative stereotypes of people with mental health issues.

With how many people have you been involved in their mental health treatment?
