A friend of mine in the USA sent me this fascinating video that he thought was very interesting. Its 10 minutes long and shows how many people who identify as right wing Libertarians in time become Fascists.

I have see recent press and X videos where they then go onto attack real Libertarians.

It has been serendipitous that this fool had blocked me so I largely don't have to be exposed to such foolishness and mendacity.

Worth noting, such fool blocked me for speaking the truth.

The US has really lost the plot as in as much many of these units are in the Congress now and have real influence, none of this stuff ever got the US to be the great power it is or leader of the free world.

Trouble is, they're defining the far-Right as simply anyone who isn't far-Left.

There's an awful lot in the middle, the majority of the population, with whom both extremes are completely out of touch. :2twocents
It's very interesting though, it would be an intellectual curiosity however these are the guys with the radio shows etc. They are gaining influence. They are growing and you can see the true Libertarians getting upset with the the direction things are going.

Agreed there.

I'd describe myself as broadly Libertarian although I accept authoritarian approaches when clearly necessary for the greater good. Rules where they're justified yes, otherwise society ultimately descends into chaos, but rules for the sake of control definitely no.

I can't possibly support either extreme of the political spectrum at present however. Both have lost the plot big time. The Left are in my view worse only because they seem more effective at implementing their agenda, the one saving grace for the actual far Right being they don't seem anywhere near as successful at implementation. :2twocents

I actually watched the vid. None of the people mentioned have ever identified as Libertarian and the vid was chock full of argumentative fallacy and left wing propaganda designed to attack the authoritarian right.

No surprises there.

I am somewhat qualified to comment as I am a member of and active in the Australian Libertarian party, the difference between the American and Australian version notwithstanding.

We should be talking about the likes of Ron Paul and the Mises caucus people, rather than genuine white supremicists such as Spencer.

Therefore sorry Knobby, although the vid raises *some worthwhile points from the perspective of Left wing authoritarianism, it is not a valid commentary on Libertarianism.

So what does Libertarianism mean to you?

It's always a topic of thought consideration and reconsideration, but in general I like John Stuart Mill's work. "On Liberty" etc.
So, as an example, did you support Julian Assange's activities and lobby our government for his release?

It's not a subject that I am deeply involved with. My feeling is to support his release however I am aware that there are some who have made points against it and I haven't really gone deeply enough into it to make an absolute call on it.

Didn't I post recently on leftist as being fascists in the long run?
Mussolini anyone?

I suppose left or right authoritarians want some form of fascism. I guess national socialist are on the rise. But general the right want to be left alone.

But look at the left during the lockdowns. Or even on climate change. It has to be done their way, no concessions. The right I think are reaching that point now. Leftist stupidity got us here though.

In my reading of Germany in the 1920's and 30's and living through these chaotic times now, I can understand the attractions of fascism. The results of tyrannical order need to be remembered however. Simple answers often lead to regret.

Hate to tell you guys, but we already live in fascism, the corporatist elements of it anyway. It has just morphed into a globalist version, rather than nationalist.

Are you talking about Musk, Zuckerberg , Exxon et al?

Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts said on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast Tuesday that Republicans are “in the process of taking this country back.” Former U.S. Rep. Dave Brat of Virginia hosted the show for Bannon, who is serving a four-month prison term.

“We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be,” Roberts said.

The 922-page plan outlines a dramatic expansion of presidential power and a plan to fire as many as 50,000 government workers to replace them with Trump loyalists.
