Obviously Kony does need to be stopped and quickly, but there's something that doesn't feel right about social media being the driver of this. 10 mill hits in a few days on youtube? Hmmm. Vigilante-style law enforcement isn't a good thing IMO.

Yeah, no one gives two hoots about the Australian Kony?

Through the social explosion it allows the discourse to emerge within ruling groups (government), so all it takes is a couple do-gooders within government to cotton on to the idea of trying to get rid of him and you have movement. Then the rest of the mob driven by self-interest see the popular support and see potential votes.

I think it is useful. A better question is, what do we think of the group behind the video? Seeing as the group endorses a different guerilla group and has happy snaps of the founders with fighters with AK47's and RPG's.

That's a bit distasteful. They should be able to recognise that conflict is bad for communities and especially children, so to celebrate it in a way may not be the best idea.

I wonder to what extent "liking a status" or a video getting a "hit" means support? It's easy to sit behind a computer and click your mouse, but how many people are exerting any more energy than that to capture the guy?
