the following email lobbed in my basket asking to be distributed more widely....might be interesting to ask the pollies "why not?"

I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to earn that pay cheque, (I work on a mine site on a Kalgoorlie (WestAust) construction project), I am required to pass a random urine test for drugs, with which I have no problem at all.

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a Centerlink Payment (social security) because I have to pass one to earn it for them??
Please understand - I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sit on their backsides drinking alcohol & smoking dope. Could you imagine how much money the Government would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a Centrelink Payment ??

Come on, Fair's Fair, Fix it up !!!

Please pass this along if you agree or simply delete if you don't.

Hope you all will pass it along though,

because something has to change in this country, and soon!

Rediculous treefrog, quite frankly. The person on the mine site may operate heavy equipment and may be responsible for people lives. The joker sucking our taxes laying on the couch at home does not. He can smoke all the dope he likes. :2twocents

Interesting Idea ....

Guaranteed to banish which ever political party pursued it to the history books for eternity .....

Imagine telling one of the 59pc of Qld retirees who get a Centrelink payment to provide a Jar full or one of the millions of Mothers whom receive a family tax payment, surely the cost of testing millions of centrelink customers would be way way out there.

Maybe the same lick gadgets the police use would do the Job ?

Here Gran, lick this, no pass, no pension :eek:

Maybe passing a drug test should be mandatory for those wanting a margin loan :D

rediculous??
I think this person's gripe is that he is forced to pay taxes (ultimately at the point of a gun if he declines) so that these jokers can smoke all the dope they like as parasites

I look at it this way;

Alcohol is not illegal. Why test for alcohol if they aren't working. If they are driving to pick up the dole check drunk, then yes.

Onto drugs. (He) wants to test unemployed for drugs. Why not just go the whole hog...Test everybody! Police state the country. It will get rid of drugs, drug related murders, and free up some real estate for me to buy. LOL

On a serious note, if it actually happened, what would be the penalty? No more benifits? = crime goes up! ...or jail! = our taxes go up to fund the three serves and bed in the new gaols that have to be built to accomodate them. Oh, and when they get out, how employable they will be with a record.:confused:

If, and if they are actually doing all this on the small amount of money they receive, they have great budgeting skills!:eek:

Birdster

Note;

Years ago I was on "Austudy" for TAFE. It was VERY hard to pay the rent let alone eat. The hoops I had to jump through to get austudy was absurd. Now my career funds my losses on the dang market! :banghead:

I don't know about you, but my "tongue in cheek" detection meter went straight over to red. ;):D

... or City Traders? In fact most economists seem to be on something elicit. :cautious:

I can see benefit of being able to decide for people on the dole what happens to my money I donate to them for their hardship.

Fact that HARDSHIP became permanent way of life and for 4 generations in some instances proves that there are not enough checks while testing for hardship.

Having been involved in the welfare sector for about 15 years, I agree that there are some wasters who are simply fiddling the system.
But on the whole, most people receiving welfare are genuinely in need of the help. Don't underestimate how difficult it is to manage on such a meagre income, i.e. an age pension would be the highest amount, along with Disability Pension,and is about $530 per fortnight. Rent is between $200 and $300 per week Even if it's the conservative $250 p.w. how are you supposed to live on the remaining $30 per fortnight? Rent assistance provides a further $85/$90 per fortnight. Try feeding and clothing yourself, running a car, paying for prescriptions etc out of that.

So let's not be too tough on those who for whatever reason can't look after themselves for a while.

Begs the question of what about the old crew who may just be kicking back and taking a breather............after yonks of paying taxes. Surely they are permitted the dole and a bong........or 3 :p:, without having to piss in a bottle for the privilige
