Interactive Brokers Troubleshooting

thanks nick and professor for the feedback

its "a little comforting" to know i'm not alone in my ib account activation frustration.

here in aus, providers cant wait to open your account, a new account can be complete in 24hrs if the applicant is organised.

ib conversely take pleasure in drawing the process out:
- first telling me 1 to 2 days
- then 1 to 5 days
- then when the 5 days are up, telling me another 5 days
- then when i place the ib supervisor in an emotional head-lock, they state the process is indefinite, no precise time frames can be given :swear:

i'm only persisting with ib because my charting software provider suggested them, but its coming to the time to move on i think:).

yeah I know exactly what you mean, I opened an accout with CMC a couple of weeks ago - I had someone on the phone ringing me within 10 minutes of sending the application off on the website. To say I was stunned was a bit of understatement!

Like Nick says though, you'll be impressed with it once you finally get up and running - whilst I was impressed with the customer serive at CMC, I most certainly wasn't once I started using their platform:(

professor

CMC like to requote as you may have discovered, this is not good particularly if you need speed.

haven't had that problem as yet, though I've only been trading for about a week so will have to see how it goes as the accout builds up a bit of profit.

only likely to encounter requoting when market is moving quickly

cheers James:)

It something I'm aware could happen, so I'll be keeping an eye out for. Ususally don't trade through news announcements on 4X or index futures and won't be doing either of those when using cfd's either. The other stuff I'll be using it for isn't intraday so speed of execution won't be much of an issue(hopefully:D)

I am now the happy owner of data. And my charting software is, as I write, producing live index charts.

I have just opened an account with esignal, it took a short and hassel free 65 minutes from when i finished my phone conversation with the esignal consultant to the charts up and running.

IB will probably get wind of this and my account, that I initiated weeks ago, will miraculously activate tonight.

Sure IB are cheaper, but when you get to my age you realize that excellence in customer service is worth paying for.

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering when you backfill intraday with IB in charting programs like AmiBroker, how far back can you get? Is there a limit?

I read in AB manual that IB backfills are around 30 days, which is great however for instance, I can get up to beginning of May for SPI, whilst for some other contracts such as the HSI, I only have the last two weeksish, everything before that are incomplete, missing volume...etc.

Do you guys have the same sort of problems with contracts such as the HSI? (ie. missing correct quotes for the first 20ish days of the month before you started using IB)?

Thanks.

Hmmm.

Having trouble logging in to TWS today. Any others? (had a warning the other day that the current version was out of date and would need to be updated before August....)

With a GTC order of shares, if it gets partially filled 3 or 4 times until order is complete.
Is commission payed on each partial fill? Or, commission is payed on the first partial fill and then no more commission is payable?

The latter - no further commission until filled.

I have been having trouble logging onto the web based version too!

Also, US data is all over the shop, sometimes it disappears! WTF?

The latter - no further commission until filled.

I was thinking the same, but a reply to a trouble ticket states that a GTC order is looked upon as a new order each new trading day.

The 1 order is being charged AUD6.00 each partial fill. Whether it takes 1-4 times to be complete.

I'm not getting any bid/ask prices on most ETF's in the ASX like STW or IEM. They just show as closed all the time. Is this happening to anyone else?

I raised a ticket with IB about a month ago, they referred me to online Chat who said the programmer was aware of it and was working on it. Nothing has changed since then, I guess I will follow them up again. I was just curious if it was only me or if everyone was affected?

I think it might have happened when the ETF's were moved from the equities to the warrants market in the asx:

1. Your IB account.
2. No. You would get a statement in your own name, showing the dividend only. (at the moment);
3. Drips - no. Most others yes.
4. Yes
5. No
6. Yes
7. Available now. Usually we have around 130 stocks available for shorting.

Hi Steve,

Is there a list of stocks available for shorting - or is it just a case of placing a sell order and seeing what happens?

What the fukc??????

I just had a stop gaped over in pre-open, then when market opened, it took 4 minutes to execute? What is the deal there? Lucky for me, it did not continue to capitulate, but what if it did? 4 minutes after open, come on, a lot of movement can take place in that time!!!!!!

Hey guys,

I just received this email about the security device, saying I should have received some card in the mail with the code that I would need to activate otherwise I won't be able to trade anymore.

Is this common? I thought this only applied to people in the states? Anyone got their 'device' in the mail?

Thanks
