Interactive Brokers Troubleshooting

Yep, I also have, until today that is, found IB to be fantastic. I have on my TWS pages the column advising whether or not a stock is shortable. The majority are shown as shortable. Today I went in to short a 1/2 dozen ASX stocks (Thats all I trade). In addition to being told that IB would need to 'locate' the shares, I have now been waiting for 3 hrs for those shares to be located. does anyone know the current position with shorting these suppossedly shortable stocks? It all seems like Ive been misled.

Guys,
Just be aware that I accidentally sold a long position twice effectively shorting the darn thing. Not sure if IB has now implemented shorts again but just beware...

Had to buy it back losing on commission.

I know about this:

Hey guys,

I have a problem with the SIMULATED account/ paper account. Everytime I set my trailing stops when buying shares, they get triggered a day or two afterwards even though the price never dipped past the trailing stop. The trailing stops are at 3% and I've made sure that they've all been sent as GTC orders. An example:

Bought 1770 PAN @ 1.090 on 31/03/09 @ 14:25:12

(At this stage, the trailing stop is @ 3% so it the trigger point is at 1.057)

Sold 1770 PAN @ 1.105 on 1/04/09 @ 10:17:15

From what I understand, the trigger point should still be at 1.057. According to my intraday data, the price for PAN remained above $1.057 until 10:53 AM, after the trailing stop should have been triggered.

It seems as though the trailing stop is 3% of intraday prices rather than 3% of daily prices which is what I want. How do I change this?

I don't use IB but if I understand this correctly - because you have a trailing stop it will move up as prices move up, if you want your stop based on EOD prices you will have to re-adjust your stop at the end of each day. Not sure if you can do this automatically with IB - you may have to just do it manually each day.

Your alternative would be to use a charting software and find out what the Average True Range of your securities is and set it to 3% below that range.

eg: Telstra's Range is about 6 cents, so 3% below that

Can you short stocks on the ASX again now? According to IB's website there isn't any shortable stock left. I'd have a look myself but I don't subscribe to any ASX data but would do so if I could short.

CamKawa,
This is the second time I've done it this month. I accidentally did it the first time by calling IB's call centre to close out a long position and this time did it through the TWS platform.

Don't ask me how I did it but that's not something I intended. DYOR as I don't know how it happened but with TWS, it's simple to do something I didn't intend.

Just be careful, this is an FYI.

Paul

Hey guys,

When I subscribe to market data from IB, where do the funds get taken from? Is it from my account or do I get sent a bill?

Thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's on their site :)

While going through the IB account setup, I noticed a comment that it may take up to 3 days for money from sell transactions to clear to my account, at least it said that about US stocks. I trade on ASX only but can't find anything in the FAQs about this. Anyone who has sold on ASX, do you see your funds immediately or not?

Thanks in advance

Anyone gone from a single account to a friends and family account or do I have to start again?

Anyone have problem with backfilling on FTSE futures? All my back fills since end of Apr have prices at 43.00 instead of 4300.

Cheers

EDIT: Thought I'd make this more clear, for instance, current FTSE price is 4475, my backfill data would be 44.75, however if I leave Amibroker on to fetch live data, it charts fine at 4475, so now I have a bar that has gone from 44.70 to 4475 (imagine a daily range like that ;)).

If someone can please test it out it would be greatly appreciated.

Same.

Funny how this stuff always happens after public hols

Thanks TH, now I can purse this further with IB, will let you know how it goes.

Sounds like this has happened in the past? Have you been able to refill the right data after it's been fixed (if it ever got fixed) or simply did without it?

Has anyone used IB for ASX listed company options? I have a bunch of GDNO and was wondering what the process for exercising them (assuming ITM) through IB seeing as they aren't CHESS sponsors.

Any wise heads out there?

Cheers,

A.

Anyone else having problems with IB's ASX feed? Can't see any prices today. :(

Thanks Cutz. It's a customer service blackhole with IB at the moment.

HK desk not open, US desk just closed.
