IG Markets - Platform Faults & Gotchas

does anyone use IG to trade the FTSE??

have you noticed the deal ticket prices moving rapidly and out of synch to the chart price?; flicking a couple of ticks rapidly either side of the chart price!

making it very difficult to hone in on a price without ordering, which isnt always practical intraday trading.

IG tell me its because the market is moving quickly. hmmm . . . .

now this sounds reasonable but i've traded the ftse using other platforms and the deal ticket prices never moved as rapidly as they do on the IG tickets.
its disorientating watching the deal ticket when it moves around like that.

any thoughts?

James

Gidday JA, I am a long term IG account holder (which basically means I haven't been able to take much money off them ) ........... yet :D !! ......... but their charts lag the real price action noticeably at times, making it pretty hard if you are trying to "short term" trade ..............

I get the impression their "deal ticket" is pretty close to the "real" price, but if you are trying to trade off their charts (scalping), its pretty difficult ............. Cheers.

I would not recommend using IG markets for the stock markets. You cant see the market depth. I only use them for forex

If you want a little bit faster graphs from them, all you need to do is click the drop down box next to the security you desire and click the "Advanced chart" button.

If I do any scalping i use "order to open" above/below resistance/support lines. Watching their charts and clicking the button is far far to slow.

handy to have a commsec account at the same time

Anyone tried to use DealThru charts? Still a bit buggy from what I have seen ie not reliable enough for trading. Basically keeps crashing if I try to delete an order, that's if it gets put through in the first place :banghead:.

Seems like IG have put out the new gadget before they have ironed the bugs out?

I tried to use it last night after seeing it advertised on the Australian website but couldn't work out how, so rang support who kindly advised it won't be ready till today - nice of them to tell me after half an hr wasted!

no problems here with the dealthru system... (using ff 3 and java 6)

I think CMC had this feature a while ago? Anyway, I see this as an invaluable tool for trading off support and resistance lines. Takes out entering orders manually and saving time.

next feature i'd like to see is automated rule based trading... :)

Just something to consider.

When placing trades take a screen dump of the confirmation box showing the entry and stop prices.
I had a short trade on AUD/USD pair and was surprised to find out that I was stopped out at my entry price!!
IG maintain that my trade was filled at the "correct" price. (Their correct price and at their "exact time" the trade was placed ).

There should be NO difference between the price they display to you and the price they tell you you entered at. Hmmmm

I lost over 80 pips profit. They were unwilling to address the situation.
Check any discrepancies between the displayed entry price and what they actually give you.

I let them know I will be taking screen dumps of all confirmations from now on
and if there are any discrepancies they will be hearing from me!!!!

Not happy !!!!

yep,
trading is difficult enough on its own, you dont want to be battling the technology (which is scewed against you) as well.

and theres virtually no accountability, these guys and others have a licence to print money.

i'm trading index minis, which is preferrable as a beginner, so i use the bucket shops.

after an argument with my provider on the phone just yesterday, the dealer took it upon themself to open THREE trades in my account without me requesting them to do so. This is after our phone conversation.

Furthermore, he had the audacity to notate my account: positions opened at customers request.

Bloody hell! I couldnt believe it.

I was sitting at my desk watching trades appear, as if from no where, in my account. I was closing them, this guy was opening them.

OMG! this happened to me aswell!! It was about a month ago.

So I gave them a call, I asked the lady if I could talk to someone about a recent transaction, and she put me on hold. 2 mins later, I was hung up on!

As soon as this happened, i withdrew all my money, and I have since opened an account with http://www.pacifictrader.com.au/

@ James Austin
That is ridiculous, them opening a position for you?! you might be able to sue

@ Everyone: IG markets makes a living out of the basic fact that 90% of people in the stock market lose money. What you see on their system is a ghost market. Ever wonder why they market their products to nubs? nubs lose the most money, and with their system, the nubs dont lose it to the market, they lose it to IG.

IG markets DONT want you to win.

Just venting my spleen !:banghead:

Ever notice how in rapidly moving markets, you go to close out a position only to be told "This price is no longer available" .Please try again.
By the time you clear the screen and reset the Close Button .
Guess what ?? they have cost you money $$$$.
No such problem exists when they stop you out . That price is ALWAYS available!!!!

I guess doing battle with your CFD provider and the system the stack against you is just another dimension to the joys of trading !!

Cheers
and Good trading to you all

All of my watchlists got empty or majority of the securities just disappeared!!

FX GDP/USD was available only via phone dealing for a short while!

US Crude oil contracts are missing entirely!!

Do you guys know what's happening or am I the only the one experiencing this?

Can anyone log on L2 dealer? I've a error massage saying "unable to establish a connection to L2 severs".

Puredeal is working fine.

Any IG Market users out there who hold Australia 200 cash positions over night? Have you ever wondered / queried / checked the dividend amount paid to you? I am wondering also if they credit the same amount to long position holders as they debit the shorters, or is there some profit that they keep for themselves?

I asked them once about what I thought was quite a large deduction and the only response I could get was "There was a short position size of $25 and adjustment of ~9 points, therefore adjustment = $25 x 9! Thanks for the enlightenment!!

Hi y'all, this is my 1st post here, though I've been an occasional ASF visitor for a while.

I just opened an account with IG Markets a few days ago and so far their Puredeal platform seems fine except for a few "Rejected: Price no longer Valid" errors (Most of the time it's confirmed pretty much instantly). I re-tried again within seconds and it worked fine, but by then several pips have moved against me.
These errors have been infrequent (3 times out of about 50 trades - twice when trying to open a position, once when closing) and they have had negligible effect, but should I be more worried about this?

I'm experimenting with scalping major Spot FX currencies on tick charts while keeping an eye on the resistance & support levels at 1min & 5min charts.
I don't rely on the built-in S/L's (which don't seem all that reliable after browsing through this thread) but just use the charts and get out immediately when price moves against me.

I've made a small profit so far, but am wondering: should I stick with IG or should I look elsewhere for better spreads, reliability, customer service, etc? Are there any other problems with IG/PureDeal that I need to watch out for?

anyone had this experience??

i had a trade in with IG, my stop was hit but price didnt actually reach my stop.

eg, price high 4227.8 at 10pm on 1min chart, IG price reached 27.8 + 1 spread = 28.8, my stop 29.3

close i know, but it irritated me when i spoke to IG about it and they said the charts are only indicative, . . . code for inaccurate and we are not accountabe

more annoying . . . as i'm on the phone to IG i'm watching my deleted trade move 30pnts in my favour.

but, when all is said and done i will live to fight another day
:eek:utthedoor:
