Hi guys,

I was wondering for those of you that use AB with IB, do you also get this problem whereby if you have AB running with say the SPI chart open prior to 950am, when the data kicks in on open, the opening bar is not correctly drawn? I can only get the right bar if I reload AB after say a minute or so.

If I leave it open prior opening, the bar often has the wrong opening price, volume...etc, proceeded by a ' - ' (same OHLC). I have been using IB chart for the first minute, but am interested to know if this is only a problem on my end.

Thanks

Think the problem is your end - mine works fine if it is on an hour before the open or just after. First bar prints fine.

I have the same types pf problems when opening AB and IB up together when i get home at night. What i find works best is to have AB open before i open IB. Then once IB is open, open the IB database up in AB. Then, give it the time it needs to backpafill all the charts you have in your standard layout. By being patient and not switching applications during this time i have found that the backfills are more accurate and stay connected better.

I hope this helps, but i would also be interestd in knowing any other tricks for this.

Cheers,

I just open IB and then when that is fully loaded, open AB. I've made the default database as the IB one, so it opens that and updates straight away.

Hello All,

Slightly off-topic but....

I'm looking at using IB with AB for intraday stuff and would be interested in knowling what effect using intraday data has on ones internet connection? What level of data traffic could be reasonably expected and would this quantity of data be classed as "fair usage" by most internet providers?

Just interested...

Thanks.

Hi Chorlton
Sorry - have no idea. I'm on adsl with unlimited download so haven't a clue as to how much I download per day data wise.

Just wondering if anyone can help. I would like to get tick or second data into Amibroker and realise I need to upgrade to the professional edition to do this.

However, I vaguely remember hearing somewhere that you can't get tick data from IB - is this so? Is it possible to get anything less than one minute from IB into AmiBroker professional?

Any help would be much appreciated... :)

says something about 0.2-0.3s snapshots instead of real ticks.

Have one more question. I remember Wayne saying he lost all his data when upgrading. Does anyone know which files to save to retain historical data? I know it would have to be the IB database, but not sure if there are any others as well?

Yep, I would think that all you have to save is the IB folder in AB – make a copy of it and then upgrade.
Not 100% sure though as only updated AB not upgraded.

Thanks jmw. With no response to the question here, I sent an email to AB support. They said it shouldn't be a problem, but suggested backing up before doing the upgrade. As it turned out, everything was retained except the tool bars and they were an easy job to put back.

Data and layouts were all retained OK, however with 5.2 now requiring the addition of currency in the symbol code, I had to set up new symbols. I was able to merge them so the new symbol now has all previous data attached. The most time consuming job was having re-draw all trendlines, other markings, etc as AB treated it as a new symbol.

Anyway, all up and running like clockwork now. :)
