Shahrukh Khan, 16, said he and his classmates ducked below their desks when four gunmen burst into their room.
“I saw a pair of big black boots coming towards me. This guy was probably hunting for students hiding beneath the benches,” Khan told AFP from the trauma ward of the city’s Lady Reading Hospital.
Khan decided to play dead after being shot in both legs, stuffing his tie into his mouth to stifle his screams.
“The man with big boots kept on looking for students and pumping bullets into their bodies. I lay as still as I could and closed my eyes, waiting to get shot again,” he said.

It isn't about the political left or right. It's not about being Australian. It's not even strictly about Muslims. It is everything about solidarity.
Before #illridewithyou went global on Monday, the idea to accompany Muslims on their daily commutes at a time when anti-Muslim sentiment was likely to be running high was just that - a good idea built on empathy for our neighbours. It was founded on the very real possibility that, in the midst of the Sydney siege, anger might be misdirected towards those who have no responsibilities whatsoever for one man's crazed actions.

The siege and deaths at Martin place are horrific. But allowing our society , as a consequence of the actions of one crazy person, to treat all Muslims as dangerous or evil is infinitely far more destructive of our souls and our psyche. Malcolm Turnball has made the point very clearly. The support offered through the "I'll walk with you" tag backs this up.

Well Calliope you clearly need to get right out there and make sure all good true Aussies understand just how vile and dangerous those psychopathic Muslims are. Perhaps they should all be tattooed and have an injected tracing chip so that we can be absolutely sure exactly WHO they are and WHERE they are ?

North Queensland MP George Christensen has stood by his comments on social media that the "pathetic left-wing" #illridewithyou campaign portrays Australians as racists who will attack Muslims.
The hashtag, which began trending worldwide on Twitter on Monday, was created to counter a potential anti-Muslim backlash over the Sydney siege.
Users tweeted messages declaring they would ride with anyone who was scared to take public transport because they were wearing religious dress.
But Mr Christensen, the Member for Dawson, said he thought it created a false set of victims and took the focus away from the two slain hostages, Tori Johnson and Katrina Dawson.
On Twitter he called it a "pathetic left-wing black arm band brigade campaign" that casts "Aussies as racists who will endanger Muslims".
He later told ABC News that he stood by the comments and believed the campaign was attacking Australians.
"It's saying people of the Muslim faith, who on public transport are not safe because there's going to be Australians out there who are going to attack them," he told ABC News.
"And I mean my goodness, it's insulting I think for most Australians."
He also took offence to the fact that was started late Monday night while the siege was still underway.
"This Twitter campaign started while the hostages were still at gun point, and that's what I find sickening about the whole thing," he said.
"I mean really it was a diversion of attention from where the focus should have been, for most people.
"And I think there's a lot of people out there who for political reasons don't want to discuss the hard issue of radical Islam in Australia."
