GIRL'S ARM MAY BE AMPUTATED AFTER DOG ATTACK

06:30 AEST Wed Nov 25 2009 By ninemsn staff

Doctors may be forced to amputate a 12-year-old girl's arm after a vicious dog attack in Darwin.
The girl suffered deep lacerations to her right arm after her family's pet dog mistook her for someone trying to break into the house, the NT News reports.
She underwent emergency surgery and skin grafts after the attack last Friday, and as of last night she was still in hospital in a stable condition.

The newspaper said it was believed the girl was walking home from school with her brother to their home on Darwin’s outskirts and found they had been locked out of their home.
The girl climbed in through a window and the dog ”” reported to be a bull-mastiff great Dane cross ”” attacked her.

Police and ambulance officers were alerted to the attack by the girl's brother, with police forced to shoot the out-of-control dog when they got to the house at about 3.30pm on Friday.
According to statistics from the Australian Institute of Health, the Northern Territory has the highest rate of people hospitalised for dog attacks in the nation.

This time pet dog, so dog's muzzle would help 12 y.o. girl, that’s for sure.

Thought for a while the attacks stoped, unfortunately we have another one.

Well, but that’s what pitbulls do they attack if the circumstances are right, so not really surprised.

Muzzle would be great here too, like weapon in safe.
Maybe one day regulators might wake up to themselves, maybe not.

PITBULL RIPS OFF THREE-YEAR-OLD BOY'S SCALP
13:00 AEST Sat Dec 5 2009 By ninemsn staff

A three-year-old boy has had most of his scalp torn off in a pitbull attack in the Northern Territory.
The boy, whose name has not been released, was playing in the backyard of a relative's house in Katherine when a pitbull latched onto his hair and ripped off a large section of his scalp, the NT news reports.
The boy's mother, who was inside the house at the time of the mauling, ran outside when she heard his screams.
Paramedics rushed the boy to Katherine Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
A large part of the boy's scalp, measuring 10cm by 7cm was left exposed after the attack.
Ambulance deputy operations manager Craig Garraway told the NT News that the boy had sustained an extremely severe injury.
"The dog has taken the top of his scalp off from his forehead right back," the newspaper quoted him as saying.
"I would imagine he would have to undergo a series of surgeries to repair the severed scalp."
The dog involved in the attack has been put down.

The 57-year-old's left arm and face also suffered injuries when the dog, believed to be a pit bull terrier, attacked her at her home in Portland in Victoria's far southwest.

….

Didn’t report for a while due to popular lack of demand, but it happens on too regular basis and I fear that one day it might be somebody from my family!
