Commsec Iress - All comments welcome

I have read through this thread and both my husband and I have rung Commsec twice to find out how to set up dual screen using Iress. We have been using ProTrader and it was simply a matter of dragging what we needed across to the second screen, then when we saved it each time we logged on we had our dual screen set up. The comments back from Commsec Help Line were that Iress is not and can not be set up for dual screen. Has anyone been able to set up dual screen?
Thanks.

I don't have Commsec Iress so it might be different. By clicking on "window" on the main tool bar, then "configure display" then click on "No Frames". Then you should be able to move whatever you want around on both screens. Then save the layout by clicking back on "Window" again then "Save Layout" so it will be there next time you log in. Anyhow, that's how mine is set up and have no problem with dual screens.

If that doesn't work, someone else here at ASF with Commsec Iress might be able to help. Failing that, try sending the Iress help desk an email or give them a call - details here: http://www.iress.com.au/contact-us_contact-support.aspx

Thank you so much Sails,
You were more help than Commsec who we had rung twice. They told us both times it could not be done and Iress couldn't be used with a dual screen set up. We were just up to googling other trading platforms when your reply came. It works no problem and we are able to set up dual screen thanks to your help.
Thanks.

So glad to hear it worked :)

Commsec support is the main reason I no longer have any accounts there

Commsec Iress is rubbish, I tried it and didn't like it at all, not user friendly. I will never use Commsec Iress or any Iress for that matter.

It sometimes looks as if commsec support uses a "one size fits all" approach. The customer service desk staffers appear address everything from trade to technical support and the level of knowledge of technical support differs from staffer to staffer.
Since I started this thread I have learn't more on how to set up appropriate hardware and the software from the ASF members than commsec. Commsec certainly pointed me in the right direction for the initial basic setup, but the fine tuning "expertise" has come from the ASF members. Keep it comming.

nulla nulla, check out the Iress help files (hopefully Commsec haven't disabled them!). I have found quite a few useful features by going through them and they are well set out with illustrations.

I just subscribed and had trouble with where I want my windows. Called Comsec and the guy palmed me off by saying IRESS is not functioning correctly and they are waiting for a major upgrade.

Try tomorrow he said

That is pretty much how I feel at this stage, just cannot get comfortable with it.
Just unloading Pro-trader and trying Pulse which is where pro-trader1 came from.

Looks like got to move away from Commsec for the brokerage to do this.

Easy to skip past wen plunging in, however the "help" files contain two sets of tutorials "basic" and "advanced". The "basic" tutorial is a good introduction to setting up, the "Advanced" fine tunes the overview of how "Iress" works and may benefit your style of trade.

It is feed back from users that provides good ideas of working setups, particularly where you are trying to spread the display over multiple screens.

I usually check in on this thread, so ask if you have any other specific queries. I'm not an Iress expert, just been using it for a few years now.

Ye it works good,, meaning reliable,,,, but it doenst have the bells n whistles
that pt1 had :(

i will miss the DDI in pt1 as well as the ability to change background colour. the default font in pt1 is also far superior than the IRESS. i have to change the font in IRESS everytime I log in. (i have a DELL 30" monitor at 1900 x 2600 resolution, perfect for pt1).
does anyone know of a chart that uses DDI for the local market? please ! thank you.

same here. am already looking at other brokers with better platform than IRESS. preferably a platform similar to pt1.

hi, Techbuy. hope you don't mind me asking, where can i get Pulse ?

If we look for the negative aspects of something we will find it. The feedback from people using CommsecIress, having switched from PT1 or PT2, has often been negative initialy. However many of the users are exploring the options and finding that more exists than they realised or found in the Help tutorials.

For instance, yesterday I learnt that if you bring up a graph screen on a stock, then work through the tool bar options within the graph screen, you can do pretty much the same with the data as you can with larger dedicated charting software packages.

The 'broadcast' facility in the pop up menu, working with open screens for 'depth' and 'chart', lets me check the status of any share on my watch list with two clicks of the mouse. Still exploring, still learning.

I have got used to it at last !!!
Fp have a webinar of how to use it on their website that may be of help

I think it will be the same as Comsec but I know some brokers offer different things through WI
If it goes slow during a volatile period i just delete a page but I have 25 boxes open all up , charts and depth

So far I don't like IRESS. I can't can't get the charts to work like PT2, it doesn't fill the whole chart window when set to update by "Trade". Also my Watchlist is not dynamically sorted.

Other than that, I haven't used it for more than 10 minutes - hanging on 'til the death of PT2.

Oh! - I don't like the values in cents and I don't like being thrown to a new browser window to trade

Hi Guys,

When i switched from protrader2 which i eventually had a gutfull with, i too found iress to be a little strange but after getting a feel for it and playing with its setting it's become a nice little platform.

The only thing i don't like about commsec's version is the requirement to enter a trading password each time i push an oder through.

Anyone else have a problem with the java update not working. Can't for the life of me get iress up and running.
