Commsec Iress - All comments welcome

From what i have seen, the need to enter a password when trading with ComseccIress is dependant on the time between trades. If the trades are close together, and i will stand corrected if i am wrong, it appears you do not need to enter a password with each trade. However is there is a time gap between trades then you need to re-enter your password. This appears to be consistant with the security requirement to log on again in commsec if you have been idle with the page open for more than a certain length of time.

A quick question to the user of any webIress platform.

Does it show the price for the cash index XJO and SPI futures dynamically? Or is that dependent on the provider?

Obviously they don't need to be tradable. But just having the price on display.

Thanks

Okay, seems the above is wrong, your trading password is required as confirmation for each trade. Mind you, I find i am able to wait as prices jump arround and hit the "Confirm" button when the price matches my buy or sell.

It depends on your broker,

I've got commsec iress which shows the XJO index dynamically but not the SPI futures.

Thanks Cutz. I found a trial with MF Global that has XJO. cheers.

Hi Everyone,

Any subscribers here to the Dow Jones Australian News that's available on commsec iress for $55 a month, is it worth it and how does it appear on the platform?

Thanks in advance.

Has anyone been able to produce interday trading graphs from previous days trading?

I wish...

I have asked from time to time if there is any chance of having more than just the current day - but it's fallen on deaf ears.

I don't see that it would be hard. They already retain the historical data in the course of sales, so I don't understand why they can't do it.

Perhaps if more ask for it they might do something about it.

Hi everyone,

Any users of comseciress had any issues lately, i've had a few crashes this week, trying to work out if it's my computer or the platform, notice there was a recent upgrade.

I HATE iress.... i think the whole platform is a joke. If they think anyone is serious about trading they would offer decent charting. The charting on there is beyond a joke in my opinion. What is the good of intraday charts when you cant see previous days?
Whats the point in having daily and weekly charts when you cant scroll back and adjust things.

The font is ugly and looks all to mechanical and robotic

You cant draw trend lines on your upper timeframes and expect them to still be there on your lower timeframes. How are you suppose to trade like this!

Its stupid. I dont see the point of it... you can execute trades on your brokers site and even the flash charts on their sites are better than the iress.

When is Australia going to be like america and have free access to good charting platforms and live asx data for free. It is beyond a joke how much company's charge just to get live data.

ugh

Yeah I agree - the iress charting is terrible - you mark up charts then refresh and all the markup is lost. The 1 minute and tic charts you can't get a full days view only partial views - which can make a difference to viewing the intraday moves in proper context (sure you can switch out to the 5 min view but you could lose any markup if you're not careful).

The course of sales data doesn't have the partial buy/sell fill condition codes.

The interface overall is annoying making it hard to read/track multiple windows with different views. The charts don't show volume by default so you have to go down and add it every time you open a new chart (who would ever want to not have volume on a chart?).

The news filtering is a joke and alerts only pop up when you've got the application open so if you open the app at 10:30 it doesn't pop up alerts for news items that match your filter that occured that morning prior to 10:30 for example (it probably works if you use SMS but who wants 100 sms messages a day?!?). It also pops up with about 5 alerts for every news item that does match your filters.

The options tracking I swear does not include as many spreads as I used to see in protrader though when I call them they insist that all market maker spreads that are active are shown in there. In protrader when I used to submit an options order the MM's used to show a spread briefly as well and I don't seem to see this happen much in iress (so you have to phone the broker to get a spread). I can't see any logical reason why this behaviour should be different in the two platforms but it really does seem to be - maybe its other changes at the backend in the broker though.

Lately the order status seems to lag so you seen an order get filled via the course of sales or in the depth, but it still shows as unfilled when you look at the order status itself - that can lead to all sorts of errors particularly when day trading.

The prices are in cents not dollars.

Overall there's not much I like about it, I liked the protrader platform a lot more. I really need to get another platform but have been a bit lazy.
