Cadbury's 20% downsize

Dont buy Cadbury, buy Whittakers, much much better in all areas.
Whittakers is good but there is only ONE shop to buy good and cheap chocolate - ALDI! Their chocolate beats all the rest.

Later in the year they'll bring in their Christmas offerings. Pralines, truffles etc. Mmmmmmmm! Time to stock up with enough supply for at least the following 6 months.

Gee ... I wonder why? Maybe making their bars 20% smaller perhaps?

BRITISH confectionery group Cadbury reported a 24 per cent rise in first-half profits and while sticking to its annual sales forecast looked for a stronger profit margin increase for 2009.

The maker of Dairy Milk chocolate, Trident gum and Halls cough drops posted a first half pre-tax profit of £262 million ($524 million) compared to analyst forecasts of £255-£264 million and a consensus of £260 million.

The London-based group reported underlying first-half sales rose 4 per cent as growth picked up after a slow first-quarter which only saw a rise of 2 per cent held back by de-stocking in the United States and difficult trading in mainland Europe.

The half-year dividend rose 8 per cent to 5.7 pence.

Try Crazy Clarkes or Chicken Feed shops for cheap chocolate.

You will though have to put up with the dark chocolate looking like white chocolate. May also get a little tummy pain, but what the hell, its cheap.

LOL! :D:D cheap stuff ftw!

I bought a pack of pies today and noticed they were a lot flatter than usual.

I mean c'mon....
I'm sure the law states that they only need 5% meat filling, and the rest whatever. Yet they now skimp on size:cautious:
How much do they want to save:confused: Next they will be using cardboard for pastry like that Chinese company did for its pork buns.

Agree. I buy almost nothing at Aldi (their fresh produce is anything but and is all pre-packaged.) But they do have some really good Belgian and Swiss chocolates at quite good prices.

Crazy Clark's has got what looks like a good deal on Cadbury choc at the moment. 220-250g blocks for $2.99.
Made in Australia (NOT China!!!). Expiry Mar-10
Old Gold Liqueur Flavoured Selection - not bad indeed! Bought 6mths supply. ;)

Professor Julius Sumner Miller will be rolling in his grave. "Watch as I put this egg inside this bottle" he would cry in his New England accent. "Now watch as we rip off the people by 20%" Todd Stitzer, CEO of Cadbury Schweppes rubbed his hands with glee at his banal statement.

My Fave - Arnotts BBQ shapes have been downsized from 250 g -through 225g to 200g. Price pretty much the same. First they introduced the 'gourmet shapes' lines at 200g then the size of the original flavours came down to match the new ones.
Pretty dodgy IMO. Package size is virtually identical. still taste great... I just have to buy more when they are on special!!! hehehehe.
And whats with the 60+ % air in chip packets these days... package size the same - air inflated - grams of chips down from 200 to 185 or so.

As for choc - I'm with Agent M on this one - Cadbury's choc is ****e (if any choc is ****e) - it's all sugar.
try Black and gold, or Lindt - Kmart currently has lindt blocks for $2 -(here in NQ) only 100g - but far superior to anything cadbury's ever dreamed of IMO.

IMOIMOIMOIMO :D

The Lindt Dark Intense Orange is really delicious. Liqueur type flavour gooey orange in dark bitter chocolate.

I hate to stay off topic, but Dukey is right about the Arnotts Shapes. Sadly what is the alternative? If they are a great product and you grew up on them, they can only get smaller as big corporations take over and increase their margins. This is the capitalist market we live in, long live the Arnotts competitors. Boycott Cadbury's if the product is no longer good value. I think the unit pricing of products will sort this out, I bet the unit price markers get smaller and smaller over time!

Certainly is Julia. The lindt blocks are small (100g)... but well worth it for the quality.

.. Maybe the other brand i mentioned should be "black and green".. or 'green and black' (not black and gold) ...... its pretty good.

The coles 'belgian' lines aren't too bad either.... the dark ones at least.
