I'm very happy for the Qantas win in spite of the high oil price.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bledisloe_Cup

Most titles won:
New Zealand - 35
Australia - 12

Longest time held by Australia: 5 years (1998-2002) (5 Titles)
Longest time held by New Zealand: 27 years (1951-1978) (12 Titles)

Recent history?
We held it for 5 years
then they've held it for 5 years.
I reckon we're about to start the next 5 years with a win.

PS gee there are many of those years that a 1-1 draw was enough to hold the cup - pretty meaningless really

..... contested over an unprecedented four matches, three games are to be played in Australia and New Zealand while a fourth, potentially deciding game, is to be played in Hong Kong in an effort to promote the game in Asia ...
thinking ahead - so what about if we're ahead 3-0 by then, and the HK match is a dead rubber (sorry kiwis, just thinking positive here )

jeez, what a whippin
lol -
a) swab the aussies
and/or
b) swab the All Blacks
and/or
c) double check the Wallabies weren't backing the All Blacks with some SP bookie

SHINBONE !! - all they had to do was kick it out lol -
so we give away a bonus point as well !!!

Bludy hell, the Robbie Deans honeymoon is well and truly over .

2020, is it safe to assume from your post that my countrymen won the dreaded game?

julia
yep , that would sadly be one very safe assumption.
like the article says, they hammered us..

It was as if they'd swapped jerseys (or guernseys if you prefer) after the first match in Sydney - where we hammered them.

lineouts, turnovers, everything
all we had to do was kick it out at the end, but no, we let them score an end-to-end try (sheesh) and get a bonus point. I'm guessing we have to win both remaining matches to win back the Bledisloe cup (just my guess - i.e. Im not sure bonus points apply to Bledisloe, although they do for TriNations)

Ahh - with 4 matches, a 2-2 draw would mean they keep it anyway, so yes, we have to win both now.

Two more games, one in Brisbane, one in HK.

Why did the Wallabies change strategy?

Last week Giteau and Barnes kicked for the corners in the all-blacks 22 and we killed them.

This week, we stopped doing that, tried to run at them, which was never going to work at Eden park, and tried pointless kicks to wingers that were half out of the field.

And to make it worse, the all blacks adopted our strategy from last week and did it better than us.

I hope the wallabies learn alot from that game. Grats to the ABs.

Anyone brave enough to bet how this game will go? lol
Talk about peaks and troughs... sheesh.
We thrash the Blacks, they thrash us
We thrash the Boks, they thrash us ...

Dean confident (?) axes 5
meanwhile AllBlacks maintain same team (again)

Trinations Game 9 ...

Aust $2.40
NZ $1.57

(pretty much like McCain and Obama respectively)

Should be a cracker 20/20...

It has been quite an interesting competition, with every team having the wood on the others at some point, but with no clear favourite emerging.

I would like to think we ("cough" the AB's) will eek out a win in Brisy, but I think it will be very close and go down to the wire.

hate to say it, but if I had $1000 to bet with (which I don't) - no way would I be putting it on the aussies lol.

tell you what though - Robbie Deans is a gentleman. (for a Kiwi anyway lol)

I take it that the Wallabies have to win both the remaining Bledisloe games to win back the Cup (?)

Well I gather there isn't much love lost between Deans and Graham Henry either, so could be a bit if a personal grudge match too..lol!

You also have to factor in that no team likes getting 50 points chalked up against them either, so I expect the Wallabies to be very confrontational.

Yes I think there are two more games left between Oz and NZ(?). I haven't managed to figure out if the Hong Kong game actually counts towards the Bledisloe, or is more of an exhibition game... but yeah, the Wallabies will probably have to win both I guess.
