Good morning one and all from a wet and windy day on the Scarp. Due to a heavy work load I have been absent from the Forum and this may continue up until Xmas.Had some very happy news a couple of days ago. Second eldest grand daughter produced a son so the 4th generation of our mob is up and running. Not a bad life, wake up, food on tap, look around and sleep, and then repeat this several times a day. Have been doing limited trading with BRN, ZIP and PLS small but tidy pick-ups. And as M would say from the old site, a profit is a profit.

Work that nasty four letter word is keeping me very busy up until the festive Season at least. Unfortunately posting is a bit hard while doing this mundane chore, but it does pay the bills. happy and profitable trading to one and all

I had a cattle carting job on today usually takes about 3hours Had a heifer stick her head through the loading ramp bars and couldn't budge it out. Finished cutting the welds at one end to get her out of this. The mongrel promptly stuck her head through the bars on the other side. Farmer was on a short fuse by then, and she is now hanging in the cool room on the owners property. A simple transport job turned into a 5 hour drama.

After being AWOL for most of the week I am now back. Heavy work commitments in the past 10 days resulted burn-out and hitting the Slumber King pretty early each night. And just to make things a tad more interesting an infected eye ball .

Good morning all.
Been absent since Tueday lunchtime.
We were hit by a tornado like hurricane at lunchtime causing a lot of damage to structures and fences.
Landline phone and mobiles were out until yesterday arvo and the internet came back on last night. Still without power.
Local servos had no power so up and down to Midland to get fuel to keep the generators running.
Every fence line has sustained damage in one form or another with tonnage in the way of heavy branches and trees on them.
Was a daunting task to start with but one fence at a time and slowly there is light in the tunnel.
The God's dropped 26.5 mil of rain on us in 20 minutes and the wind was about 100k/hr, pushed over brick pillars that go around the swimming pool, lost part of the roof on the machinery shed and some damage to the abode.

I was wondering how you fared in that. I was working up in Mundaring at the time and it was absolute devastation. Had to go down O'Brien road to another stop. The road was almost impossible because of all the branches and trees right down the whole length of the road.

We have the 2nd farm off O'Brian Rd and I haven't had a chance to go and see what the carnage might be. None of the neighbours over that way have rung so I am hoping all is ok

It's been a rather hectic 7 or 8 days just gone for me.
Flat out mowing hay day after day.
Early start and knock off at sun set, then tucker and bed.
Averaging 80 acres a day plus travelling to each job, certainly takes it's toll on body and machinery.
Idiots cutting in close to the front wheel of the tractor etc.
A short respite as there is a possibility of some showers forecast in the next few days,

thought you'd succumbed to some lurgy!!

Nah just sitting on the tractor set going around in endless circles.

Mate, a cow farmer down south dropped in the other day complaining that hay season cut him off from talking to anyone, when I was a kid best time of year hay and firebreaks.

Think the old man had me on the tractor by the time I was 11 still remember my brother a couple of years older putting the Massie through the back of one of the sheds :)

@IFocus You probably know of the Barfields, a very sad demise of their eldest son many years ago when driving a tractor as a young teenager.

Yes remember there was a boy older than me (Malcolm?) nice guy and a girl my sisters age but don't recall the tragedy, farm accidents were common those days would have been terrible losing the son.
