Absolutely correct, not that the rusted on will agree, but history is history.
Hopefully people look forward rather than backward, because a the moment neither major party is looking anything special at the moment IMO.
Labor are blaming everyone for their failings and the coalition don't seem to have a plan at all, so hopefully things improve.
We need a clean out of politicians, we mock our prime minister but the state leaders are totally pathetic more so

I think the problem at the moment is, the housing issue has brought into focus the lack of real opportunity for the younger generation.
While house prices were achievable for the average couple, there was always a light at the end of the tunnel for them.
Now the double whammy of house prices rapidly escalating away and at the same time spiralling rents killing their ability to save, it has left them with a feeling of despair.
Not a very good situation, especially when we churning out young adults with the wrong skillsets and having to import the skills we require.
An unfortunate downside of social engineering born out of good intent, but with poor outcomes, the technology sector didn't result in a massive jobs boost, it is a sector that AI is fast replacing the requirement for humans sitting at a keyboard.
The Jobs that are required are hand skills that robotics can't replace, but that sector has been decimated by the offshoring of our industries so it will take a long time to turn that around.

Do you ever think it’s by design, along with the endless out of control migration?

Do you ever think it’s by design, along with the endless out of control migration?
It's by design but it's because of layered stupidity.
Eg: Run up massive debt ooops.
Import a bunch of people to stave off a recession.

Of course you can then go to the larger world organisations we are beholden to. They give a broader scope of expectations to stay in the "club"
Then the lobbyists that work in sync.
Then the idiots that lap it all up no matter how rotten and then ask for more.

S**7 is going to get increasingly interesting about all this.

Another example of unintended consequences, Australia is now recruiting military personel from overseas, because Australians don't want to join up.
It begs the question why would young people join up, they have been told endlessly how bad Australia is, how racist it is, we are constantly bagging our institutions and the young feel abandoned politically, plus the only news they hear about the ADF, is SAS guys likely going to jail for war crimes.
I'm wondering why anyone would join up, the optics aren't good.

Hopefully the Govt signs up the overseas recruits for a reasonable time, otherwise they will be back in the same boat, when the recruits all do their contract and jump ship. So to speak.😂
Social engineering unravelling IMO.
I wonder if Chinese applicants will be accepted and if not will that be discriminatory? Oh the conundrum, interesting times ahead.
Maybe another rewrite of the anti discrimination laws, the good thing is i don't think they haven't been tabled yet.🤣

Foreigners will be able to join the Australian Defence Force under a fast-track to citizenship.
As part of the national defence strategy unveiled in April, eligibility criteria will be expanded to allow more people to join the defence force.

Who can apply?

From July, eligible New Zealanders will be able to apply to join the Australian military.

Permanent residents from all other nations will be able to do the same from January 2025.

Once they have served for 90 days, they will be expected to become Australian citizens.

Defence Personnel Minister Matt Keogh said the recruitment drive wouldn't take people out of other countries.

"These are people that have already made Australia home and we are providing them a fast track to citizenship through joining the Australian Defence Force as well," he told reporters in Canberra.

Keogh clarified in the press briefing that the option was available to all foreign nationals after the initial statement indicated a set group of nations.

the housing issue is due to mass mass endless unchecked migration! basic economics supply and demand that is creating the issue.

Well it did sound like a brain fart, as usual. :roflmao:

The government’s initial media release suggested that only permanent residents from the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network – the United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Canada – would be eligible to enlist.

Defence Personnel Minister Matt Keogh later said that permanent residents from “any other countries” living in Australia would be able to apply to join the ADF, prompting questions about whether permanent residents from autocracies such as China could be recruited.
.
.

But having said that, the coalition can't get their heads around it either, Hastie said:
Hastie told this masthead last year that “with immigration about to increase, we should consider opening service in the ADF as an accelerated pathway to citizenship”.

“If someone is willing to fight and die for our country we should take them over a $5 million golden visa any day of the week,” he said.

The problem with that is, apparently it isn't our country, so why would the tenants die for it?
Oh what a mess.

  • In short: A Fiji Navy patrol boat has run aground during its maiden voyage, after the Australian government donated the vessel in March.
  • The Guardian-class patrol boat hit a reef on Fiji's remote Lau group of islands, in a passage a local witness described as treacherous.
  • What's next: Fiji's Navy is conducting a recovery operation with help from Australia.

Speaking to reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the situation in Europe was “quite tense” and that such drills and maintaining combat readiness were important in view of the “hostile decisions and actions” by the US and its allies and their “daily provocations”.

Perhaps we should have gifted dug outs instead, something they are more used to.

Chinese premier lands in Australia on first such visit in 7 years

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived in Australia on Saturday on a relations-mending mission with panda diplomacy, rock lobsters and China’s global dominance in the critical minerals sector high on the agenda.
His visit is the first by a Chinese premier in seven years and is expected to pave the way for President Xi Jinping’s first journey to Australia since 2014.
