Are CFDs any different to gambling?

The key differences are the professional mindset vs the gambling mindset; money management and risk managment vs double or nothings (martingale gambling); and in trading you get at least some money back vs in gambling you DON'T.

Exactly.

CFDs are simply an instrument. How they're used will determine if it's gambling or not.

If one has to ask this question, then how they're using them probably is no different to punting down at the TAB.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm all for CFDs and trading in general. I manage risk and my money well enough to come out on top often enough to be able to do it as my job. And personally, I don't think that I'm gambling..well, at least I've convinced myself that I'm not! ;)

I was just sussing out others' points of view, because you guys are also interested in trading - while my partner and friends nod off in seconds when I start talking about it. I can't exactly bring this topic up at the dinner table at home...
