Annual Reports/Financial Statement data

Just got back from the Berkshire Hathaway AGM. Omaha is great place to be, and the AGM is something of a fantasty heaven for investors. I was queued up from 3 am outside the CenturyLink Center chatting with people that had come from various parts of the globe until 7 am when the gates opened.

The Q&A during the meeting was brilliant - knowledge, wisdom, wit & humor flowed throughout for 6 hrs. Charlie Munger is a gem. Even at 87, and 91 yrs of age these two are plugging away with the zeal of 20 year olds. They are living treasures.

Here are notes from the AGM (these are much more detailed than mine):
Detailed Notes From Berkshire Shareholder Meeting 2015 - Part I
Detailed Notes From Berkshire Shareholder Meeting 2015 - Part II

On the flight back I flicked through the Standard and Poors 500 Guide 2013 looking for investments. Amazing how much I learnt from a basic and simple exercise of flipping pages looking for investments the old fashioned way - beats the screeners in so many respects. Even though the data was 3 yrs old the exercise was immensely valuable. I highly recommend it.

I eagerly await to go back next year. Hope to connect with a few people on this forum that might be keen to make the pilgrimage next year.

In the meantime here are some photos I took. Enjoy :)

That's awesome! Glad you had a great time. I hope to be as enthusiastic about stocks when I'm at that age. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like you had a great time! It also made me re-read this thread and take some notes on your fantastic and clear articulation of your investment strategy!

Great thread Switesh, a few things ;

- I had a look at Vealls some time ago but was concerned with regards to the whole Singapore Investment plan. Re reports, another clean report like Vealls is Merchant House International (MHI) this one is another potentially interesting value play at the right place. You'd probably enjoy digging around that one.

- I missed BRK Meeting this year due to business priorities but a friend went, I will be heading to Omaha next year though for sure. There is a group from Sydney that head over, so will likely meet up with them when there.

- I think you would enjoy cornerofberkshireandfairfax.ca ;)

Wanted to keep my posts/notes in one thread rather than scatter them, so following on from my post on 'investors who practise deep value investing'

Spent last week studying Mohnish Pabrai (notes from most of his partnership letters and quite a few case studies).

Currently studying Peter Cundill. (Watch this video if you're interested: Mr. Peter Cundill, FCA, CFA, The Cundill Group)

The week after next is reserved for studying Guy Spier.

I can't believe that all these people that I've studied so far (or are on my 'to study' list) share an incredible similarity - they're all humble & gracious people. I'm going to steal these qualities for myself :)

Also, since I got so excited by studying the Standard and Poors 500 Guide 2013 a few weeks back that I'm placing an order for The Japan Company Handbook. Look forward to turning the pages one by one for 3500 companies when it arrives.

Thanks to The Falcon for mentioning cornerofberkshireandfairfax.ca
Hope we can attract a similar mindset/crowd here too.

Special thanks to the handful of people that've kindly allowed me to get in touch with them. I enjoy bouncing ideas/notes and learning from all of you. I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you all in person someday - the privileged is all mine.

In the meantime, here's one of my fav quotes on valuation:
If you can't add it, subtract it, multiply, or divide it, the math is too heavy.
