I’m looking for a package that can do the following, and I need some recommendations.

I want to do some studies where I place stop and limit entry points at particular times in history, and then see which ones are hit and how the portfolio value changes as we move forward in time. Ideally I would want to plot the portfolio value change over time on a continuous time chart. This sounds like it should be fairly basic, but I have no idea which packages would facilitate this kind of study. Thanks.

Not that i've got that far with it yet, but from what i read here, Amibroker is the best value for system development. They have a free trial too, but in my view its not enough time to evaluate the backtesting unless your a gun programmer to begin with. I've purchased it, and am attempting to use Premium data with it, hopefully i'll have some success this weekend.

Cheers,

That looks quite interesting. Working through the manual.

Just got my premium data working, very happy. Now i can get stuck into the 800 page manual. I think i'll get it printed next week and bound....just because i can get it done so cheaply here!

Cheers,
