No prize for the 4,000th member, maybe the 5,000th.

Hopefully it should happen later today.

Is the list pruned of dead wood periodically, including those with multiple identities and or banned?

No, the list has not been pruned, although only about 20 or so usernames have been banned. There are those who registered and then never returned but their accounts are left open just in case one day they do.

Yes, but only if you take search engine spiders into account.

Dont sell yourself short Joe; that 'users currently online' doover gets bigger everytime I log on.

Joe,

What would be the optimal number of members?

Not sure there is an optimal amount of members, Snake.

Some people register and never return, some register, participate for a while then disappear, some register and just lurk. It's a difficult thing to gauge. No doubt ASF getting bigger will be a challenge, not just for me but for everyone. In a larger group of people we inevitably have to put up with some we dislike. There will be more bad eggs and spammers. But I think with everyone's co-operation there is no reason we can't meet the challenges that come with being a larger community.

But if you ask me, the optimal amount of members is the amount that allows me to run this place full time. Getting there, but not there yet.
