The past 12 months or I have been suffering from Guitar Acquisition Syndrome (GAS). Got these lovely units.

Crank up the Mesa Boogie Mini Rectifier 25 and annoy the neighbours. Apologies for forgetting to rotate the pics.

Re: Indulgence

I love listening to the guitar and really wish i could play, alas i have to settle for recording of my favorite riffs. One day...its on my bucket list, to play the guitar. Nice ones ya got there Judd!:xyxthumbs

Re: Indulgence

Thanks. I've got a Mexican Strat on the way. Get all of them used from a bloke I know who has a small buy and sell business as a second job. He's been playing for years but he can be cranky sometimes. Rather derisive of the wannabees who go on about tonewoods, blah, blah. Has a do you like it, does it feel and sound good, can you afford it, then get it, stuff the brand or where it is made approach.

Don't keep it on your bucket list CanOz else it will stay there. Just get one. Inexpensive used acoustic. Doesn't need an amp. Work through the bit of pain in the fingertips if you go for steel-string and do it. Plenty of free information online about notes on the fretboard, chords, finger placement. Most importantly just don't care what others say about you attempting to learn. It's for yourself not them.

Re: Indulgence

Judd, just wondering if this thread was supposed to be in the General Chat forum or if there is going to be an investment angle to it?

If it's more a General Chat topic do you mind if we make it a general "My Indulgence" thread where other ASF members can post whatever it is they like to indulge in?

Re: Indulgence

My sincere apologies, Joe. I confused General Investment with General Chat. Damn I need my eyes and brain checked. I would appreciate you correcting my goof.

Re: Indulgence

Judd, do you think you need talent to play, or can one really learn it?

No problem. All done. :)

Anyone else who wishes to post about a passion or an indulgence, please feel free to indulge yourselves. :D

Good on you, Judd.

My daughter plays the guitar and the bass, I enjoy hearing it.
Its good being able to ask her to play something I like, and hearing it live :)

Agree. CanOz, if you like it enough, you should just do it.

Thanks, Joe.

CanOz, if talent was the criteria, I wouldn't have any guitars. I felt a complete fool when I first tried. Even now I probably offend somebody's auditory senses but I don't bloody well care.

I see you're in China so I don't know prices but in Oz, you're only going to be out of pocket a couple of hundred for a reasonable used acoustic or electric (but you need an amp at additional cost), so what is there really to lose?

Well, I picked up my Fender Deluxe Stratocaster on Friday (still haven't worked out how to rotate pics from phone so I'm apologise for any cricked necks.) Made in Mexico and the build quality seems very good. Been fun playing it over the last couple of days. The pick ups are not all that loud, certainly not like the Humbuckers on the Les Paul but for my purposes, they're good

Also bought a Yamaha THR10C practice amp. Relatively small and only 10 watts but with everything dialed up around 12 o'clock, it surely pumps out sound. It is designed to emulate tube amplifiers and you can hear the hum replicating that of the tubes. Interesting piece of equipment in that it is designed to replicate a number of amp models and you can store up to five presets. However, go on line and there is an entire library and you can design your own. In addition it comes with USB and software which enable you to play the guitar through it to the PC - not going to as that would be an insult to music. However, with the USB it has replaced my old speakers and the sound is a quntum leap in comparison.

Now off to work selling booze to all the inebriated entering the local bottleo.

Have fun and enjoy yourselves people.

As far as activities go...this is my indulgence and my beverage of choice when I'm playing...After about half a bottle I'm at peak form...then its all downhill from there.

I usually play at least once per week lately. In my 20's we played the tourny circuit at the Canadian Legions. You needed a sturdy liver for it in those days.

Nice boards IFocus, last one I had built, was a 6'9" x 19" single fin, by "sunrise" in Yallingup 1973.lol

Two knee replacements and a hip replacement, make it difficult to get from the bed to the floor, let alone paddling to standing in a fluid motion.:D

Jeez I miss it.

Jeez I think a group is only as good as its lead guitarist and drummer.

There are far too many strummers and not enough pickers today, also too many drummers that do it by ear and not by sheet. Only my opinion.
Im sure if you walk into a major music store you`ll probably find some 13 yr old Metalhead showing off, also I think the Singer,Bass Player and Keyboard player are pretty important too.

Cool pics.
Which one is your favourite?

If you are referring to the gits, for electrics the PRS SE Singlecut at the moment. Of the acoustic-electrics, the Maton Custom Shop unplugged for sure but plugged in it has to be the Cole Clarke FL3AC - a monster. Run it through an AER Compact 60. Really neat 6 am Sunday wake-up call for my neighbours. Yes, I have done that.

Howdy Judd ..... Since you're talking my language, I thought I'd rotate your pics for you :D

Music/Playing guitar has been good to me; Hope it returns you the same positive Karma!

Cheers.

Not to the lead who is usually off in a world of his/her own - well, my daughter really. She always dreamed of running away to become another Ana Popovic.
