Will the general population ever revolt?

Interesting thread guys with some thought provoking responses.

I tend to agree that we (not my self personally) are slaves to debt, and governments tend to like it that way, at least in certain countries. Take away the benefits of the debt, and the ability to repay it and we may see some action.

Ah, but that's an argument for ones best interests - my argument about bettering oneself is not so much about interests, but rather ones attitudes, and beliefs about life. Such personal attributes have a great contribution to society as a whole.

Furthermore, in my "group" - one would not care about the best interests of the group, only the interests of themselves. To hell with the group! Just get enough power, and money as to keep you above the hoard throughout your life, and you're set.

As Julia suggested may be the case, the last part of my comment was indeed tongue in cheek Simply because I do care about everyone in society, and I do try to help where I can, but I put myself first.

I guess what I'm trying to say about my social theory - is that one can never depend on anything, or anyone; but themselves. This may sound harsh, possibly even sad, but I honestly believe it to be the truth. I guess I don't trust society anymore than I trust our government. This applies to everything - happiness, money, security, etc.

If we're all just ants working away in our little city, how does one ever get ahead of the pack? By doing something different, and putting themselves first.

Yes, I saw the movie - quite honestly their best bet would have been to simply walk away from that entire situation, and avoid the embarrassment.

'Jack Tarr's (slang for sailor) not happy unless he's complaining'. I always though it relevant only to Navy, but it seems that it can be applied to most walks of life.

Cant have it too bad, you piss into perfectly good drinking water every day without even thinking about it. There are many less fortunate in other parts of the world that would appreciate that water even after you pissed in it..

I guess down here all we do is revoke working visas, but these European passport holders can float around from country to countrty like gypsies pinching each others jobs - perhaps bidding wages into the ground and demonstrating how Globilisation is doomed to failure

There are 2 problems why citizens wont revolt today

1: Everybody is lovey dovey and with all the feel good and scare programs today people would be to afraid to revolt.

2: Alot of people are against the 2nd Amendment but its because of that very law it allows U.S citizens to defend themselves incase of a tyranny government (thats why they 4 fathers had "The Right To Bear Arms" enscribed into the constitution.

Lets look at Italy with its Mafia problem, the "only" and i mean only way to remove the mafia and be free in its society is to revolt.

And if you look at most dictators in the past they had their civilians stripped of their personal arms that way they could never fight back.

You see alot of people say there is no need for a civilian to own a firearm (only farmers etc..) and they are entitled to their opinion but if a government were to be corrupt (which most are) and abuse their power who can stand up to a government with a military force behind it if citizens arnt armed??

It might sound western but its reality unfortunately.
