I know there is another thread about whaling, however this is a thread purely focused on brining this petition to the attention of anyone who would like to sign it.
The petition is being conducted via the Daily Telegraph website and is also supported by the Today show on Ch 9.
If you feel even slightly uneasy about whaling I urge you to put your name down. So far there are about 60,000 names to the petition but as they say, the more the merrier.
This will take you less than a minute so please click the link, put your name down and show your support, it’s as easy as that!!!
Also, feel free to post this on other forums, tell your mates, tell your parents, tell your dog.:D

I am no greeny but I think this is definitely a worth while cause, no matter what the outcome will be, and I think that most Australians support this cause.:2twocents

Cheers:D

DON'T just wring your hands in despair - YOU can do something to help stop the Japanese killing of humpback whales in the Antarctic.

As the Japanese whaling ships head south to start their hunt, sign The Daily Telegraph's anti-whaling petition with Today to send to Japan as part of our commitment to save these gentle and magnificent creatures.

Many in Japan have no knowledge of their Government’s support of the hunt, or are unaware of the special place humpbacks have in the hearts of Australians.

Our petition, created in consultation with environmental campaigners Greenpeace, aims to show Japanese people the intensity of feeling in Australia about the annual slaughter

Gotta love everyone getting sucked into the media.

Where's that "I'm ok with whaling" or "Westerners stop cultural imperialism" petition?

That's what I thought.. until I saw a humpback whale harpooned and writhing around in agony for some five minutes as it was reeled in, as thousands of litres of blood poured out of it. Even a cockroach deserves better than that.

Japan calls off humpback whale cull after pressure from Australia

The Nisshin Maru, part of the Japanese whaling fleet, harpoons a whale in the southern Atlantic Ocean in 2006. Tokyo said that the hunt of minkes would still continue
Leo Lewis, of The Times, Tokyo

The Japanese whaling fleet has called-off its hunt for endangered humpbacks after mounting international pressure and passionate criticism from Australia.

The U-turn comes as the fleet, after just a few weeks at sea, was understood to be only days away from catching its first humpback whale for more than 40 years.

The surprise decision will not, however, put a stop to Japan’s traditional annual hunt for minke whales – plans to land a record haul of 1,000 minkes remain unaltered.

Thanks Mint Man.
I'd also sign a petition against fishing. Just imagine how horrible it would be to be dragged from your environment by a hook in your mouth, then left dangling in the air whilst your captors celebrated their cleverness.

REally? you think so??
LOL....

I cant see how he is wrong? excluding other Western countries compare all the things you take forgranted such as Freedom, Human Rights, equal opportunity, peace and others and find better, youll struggle im sure.

example Bhutan measures their success in Gross National Happiness, but it still doesnt translate to those things we take forgranted.

Anyone who doesn't sign this petition should be horsewhipped.

The Sydney Daily Telegraph is one of the world's finest publications.

It maintains a consistent editorial policy and never shifts with the political wind, not even four days before an election where its preferred candidate for prime minister is finally seen to be doomed to lose.

It neither victimises nor villifies minorities, nor those unable to defend themselves.

It is ultimately owned by one of the most altruistic finest patriotic gentlemen on this planet whose fidelity to whatever country he happens to be a citizen of is matched only by his hands off policy on his editorial staff.

Shame , shame , shame, on those who don't sign this petition which has been imminent for many years but had to vie for space with a saucepan full of spice girls and the mating habits of a bevy of babes.

ditto the Today Show on Channel 9 , who I am sure if St.Francis of Assissi were alive, would have him now, besuited , out upon the open seas reporting the latest atrocities.

Your joking right?

No I'm deadly serious mate,

Any poll run by the Tele is not put there to increase circulation or induce advertisers to sell even more useless home appliances to bogans who don't need them.

The Tele does it because it cares.

So does the Today show.

They care about whales.

Before I ask I just want to confirm that I'm not attacking you, OK.
Are you an employee or in any way associated with the Daily Telegraph or the Today show?

Cheers:D

Jesus wept.

Read the posts again, Ageo and Mint Man. Carefully. Without your credibility beanies on.

Yes I am connected with the Tele and the Today Show.

I'm an anorexic babe who has worked on Today and have oodles of money and a penchant for contributing to forums on xmas eve, because I don't like taking the piss out of people and don't want to go to Russell's party tonight. . And I don't wear real fur.

I also work for the Tele selling space to car salesmen who are also a very misjudged species, and I'd read the Tele before any of those so called intellectual magazines such as Who weekly.

So vote on the bloody thing because the Tele is such a good and kind place to vote on such things..

If I'm in favour of sustainable whaling how can I get an anti-vote. (55 years ago I was a member of the Telegraph Fishing Club. Is that why I am in favour of whaling?.)

Thanks Mint Man.

I guess I will be giving my age away from this quote, however,
I was a construction worker on the Whaling station at Tangalooma on Moreton Island in 1950 and witnessed the commencement of whaling and I shall never forget the pitiful sight of those poor creatures being hacked up mainly for the extraction of their oil.

The Government at the time, allocated the whaling company 660 hump back whales to be processed during an 11 week period each year. Although the company was subjected to heavy fines if caught killing a whale under 38 feet(11.58 M.), after 11 years the company could not reach their allocation and fortunately for the survival of the whales it became uneconomical to continue its operation.

I still have vivid memories of those poor creatures to this day and remember their large eyes wide open starring at me. Their eyes were saying,"why me?"

I hope what I had witnessed during those years, will bring tears to your eyes and entice you sign Minit Mans (Telegragh) petition without reservation.
