Possibly won't impact the big miners much but flooding will slow down any drilling that exploration co's are undertaking. By the way Wodgina is the old Sons of Gwalia tantalum mine....

MELBOURNE (Dow Jones)--Major iron ore export ports and gas operations are being shut down Thursday as Cyclone George approaches the north west coast of Western Australia.

A Rio Tinto Ltd. (RTP) spokesman said the company is "tying down" its Dampier Port iron ore export facilities in preparation for the approach of the Cyclone.

"We're taking all reasonable precautions," he said, adding that Rio's last iron ore trains unloaded Thursday morning.

Dampier Port has requested that iron ore ships in the region sail out to sea, he said.

BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP.AU) said it is also tying down operations at its iron ore port of Port Hedland and staff are being sent home to secure their own houses.

A spokesman for the Woodside Petroleum-operated (WPL.AU) North West Shelf said that oil production from the Cossack Pioneer floating production, storage and offloading vessel was shut-in late Wednesday.

The vessel was disconnected and is "steaming clear" of the Cyclone, a North West Shelf spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires.

In the quarter ended December 31, 2006, Cossack Pioneer produced at average of 87,587 barrels of oil per day, with Woodside's share 14,598 bbl/day.

The Shelf's North Rankin and Goodwyn gas platforms, and the Karratha LNG plant are operating as normal, the spokesman said.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe category three cyclone warning for coastal areas and says very destructive wind gusts up to 235 kilometers an hour may develop overnight or Friday morning as the storm approaches.

A sad day in the Pilbara... http://thewest.com.au/
Not sure how much moisture will be in it when it passes over Laverton/Leonora but I imagine we will have some pit flooding in some of the gold miners.
