Why do American actresses come to Australia in winter expecting to be hot?

I've also heard that they never work in a hurry as this may cause them to sweat and if they sweat this could freeze and give them hypothermia...so they always work at a measured pace...
which could work as a good explanation to your boss...just tell him your working slow because your part eskimo!

ok,now that we`ve established the cause of pneumonia and hypothermia,can we please go back to the fluffy stuff,so far only Julia has posted something relevant to the post.Admitedly these people stand a better chance of dying of starvation and silicone poisoning than pneumonia. :
 
Somewhere I heard that only 5 % of americans hold passports...so with that in mind maybe it's just not common knowledge that it get's cold down here...
just trying to stay fluffy..how am I going ???:

lol so how do you explain 30 of my friends and family that have gotten pneumonia over the years being exposed to the cold (including myself)?

ok Visual but one last thing on Eskimo's ,the reason why they greet each other by rubbing noses is because its to cold to take there hands out of there pockets plus they use animal gut as dental floss ,which explains there bad breath

Well, Visual, see what you've started here! Realist is actually quite correct about exposure to cold not having any direct relationship to colder temperatures. However, we all know that colds, flu etc are much more prevalent during winter weather. Epidemiologists have explained this as being because we tend to huddle together indoors in semi-sealed rooms breathing in one another's virus-laden atmosphere and so are more likely to catch airborn viruses.

The other factor is, though, that if our immune systems are less than healthy because of stress from extremely cold weather, that reduced immunity renders us more vulnerable to bacteria and viruses.

So it's easy to see where the urban myth of illness being caused by cold weather has come from.

Now, is everybody happy with this very reasonable explanation, or are we still all so bored that we will find some new objection to bleat about?

And all because you objected to the strange habits of movie stars, Visual!

Just before we leave this fascinating subject, some of the healthiest people on earth are the people from the Baltic nations, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia. In mid winter they sweat themselves silly in a sauna, then go out and roll in the snow and beat themselves with birch branches to stimulate the circulation.

Perhaps we can't go rolling about in too much snow, but just having a hot soak, then a swim in very cold water does wonders for your body and your mind. Anyone else experienced the benefits of the "hot/cold" experience?

there is a correlation between cold weather and flu +miserable weather and depression and maybe the full moon and lunacy?

I would like to know how germs spread...I was once on a fishing trip going from australia to Mauritius and 4 weeks in, stuck in the middle of the indian ocean the whole crew got the flu....I can't make no sense of that...where did those germs come from?
no one got anything to add about eskimos?

I'm an American and I have a passport...so I must be one of the 5%.

But...I've never been to Australia.

So, tell me. Is winter warm and summer cold there???
 
no,but plenty of Americans come here expecting to see kangaroos bounding down our main city streets.
Also for some reason they also expect to be needing gum boots in winter, in the city

Obviously someone carried the virus onto the boat, they were fine for a few days then it hit them and everyone else.

I think most people pass on viruses before they even know they have them.

It is indeed, we go to the beach during xmas and skiing during summer. And down here during the night it is light and during the day it is dark. And we drive on the left hand side of the road not the right. And after dinner we ask for the bill and pay with a cheque, not ask for the check and pay with a bill.
