Re: WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR ???

Easy guys.

Don't forget, no matter who you vote for, you'll always end up voting for a politician...

Re: WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR ???

Labor originally persuaded the Reserve to adopt a 2-3% inflation target, that was later adopted by most of the developed world. Further Labor floated the dollar, abolished centralised bargaining and tied wage increases to productivity. All of these changes entailed a difficult period during transition, but set the economy up to reap the rewards of the boom. Zero to do with Howard. The notion that Howard is good with economic management is an absolute joke. As treasurer, he was completely incapable or unwilling to make any of the above changes. Remember, when Howard was treasurer, mortgage interest rates were CAPPED!, and he himself has forced to concede (on the 7:30 report) that they would have been much, much higher if they weren't. Also, the last wages explosion occured in 1981-3 with Howard as treasurer. HOpefully, the populous has finally woken up to this twit.
Unfortunately, 90-95% people vote along tribal lines and/or pure short term self interest, rather than based on facts, logic, greater good etc. :2twocents

Re: WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR ???

Speaking of Nukes - itd be nice to know which suburbs they are whacking up nuke reactors if they win so you could bail off your realestate before it becomes worthless!

I have very reliable information that in Sydney it is both Mosman and Double Bay. Property owners there please contact me so I can work out a fair bid for your now worthless land.

Excellent idea to tackle the "housing affordability crisis"!

BTW I voted Liberal.

Coffee bean poll results in
By Cristen Tilley

Forget Newspoll and the others, the results of the Miss Maud's coffee bean poll in Perth have been announced.

The Miss Maud's poll, in which the cafe chain's customers are each given a bean and asked to deposit it in the container of their choice, has been accurate in the past. This year's poll brought in 33,000 beans.

As expected, the Labor primary result is lower than other (more traditional) polls have predicted in other parts of the country: 36 per cent, compared to 42 for the Liberals and 10 per cent for the Greens.

Seems the Green vote will decide Australia's Government ? just like the British have been calling it the "first climate change election"

Re: WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR ???

Having seen what the unions have done to some of the business' I've worked for (bankrupt or moved overseas), I voted Liberal.

Like it or not, the major parties need each other. Without the Libs in charge of the cash there's not going to be any reason for Labour to apply the fiscal handbrake on spending. The health system isn't as bad as the media and labour party would have us believe and the same goes for Education. I paid for my education (not my parents) and it just made me more inclined to roll up to my lectures. My more wealthy, student mates who's parents foot the bill where often late or absent. Everyone know if you pay for something out of your own pocket you appreciate it more.

Call me overly cautious, but wall to wall ANY party is a scary prospect. For the record, I wouldn't want the Coalition to have that sort of power either.

I voted Labor

Even if Labor win , they won't control the Senate like this Government does.

John Howards Government is the most powerful in Australian history , it controls both houses and has used the corporation clauses in the constitution to overide the states. So wall to wall Labor still won't have the power that we gave John Howard last time round.

Re: WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR ???

I had a few drinks to celebrate the long awaited voting day -
shtopped in to get a couple of bottles of booze on the way to the voting stashun, hic.

voted Dan Murphy :p: -
for both houses!!.

PS Bit of advice to those who live in marginal seats - I reckon they'll run out of champagne before the night gets too old - so
vote early, vote often
Dan Murphy early, and Dan Murphy often !!

PP going easy on booze was a non-core promise ? (non-thort-out promise? - whatever!) - applicable only to days other than election days ;)
PS (Other Labour pref)

Re: WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR ???

Can I take that to mean that if Labor were already in power then you would be voting for them since Labor, not the Liberals, would then be the ones with experience?

This whole "experience" argument is a bit of a laugh. If that were the prima facie case for not removing a government, well it's pretty clear that whichever party got the first Prime Ministership after Federation should have stayed in power forever!

The Liber party better hope Labor NEVER gets back in, because then this whole lot of rubbish about experience can be thrown back in their faces come the following elections!

Gee, it's a good thing that "political logic" is not the same as "scientific logic" or we would all have been up the creek many moons ago..... ;)

For the 1st time in my life I have voted Liberal. A former Labour Party member and I am still a member of a Union.

rob, so what did coll vote ?
(PS guess you're living proof what they say about WA - that it's not necessarily gonna go well for Rudd) - :2twocents

Gee mate - If Bob Hawke hadn't won the America's Cup, Fremantle would still be a fishing village !! lol

You fool! We've just witnessed the effect of one crowd controling both houses. Jack Daniels for PM and Jimmy Beam for the senate for mine! (with lab pref).

ok - that'll do :)
just that Dan Murphy promises to bring in a couple of containers of REALLY really cheap booze!! - hooked me. (Don't tell the people at the polling station, but I slipped in a couple of extra forms - "t'be sure, t'be sure" ;)

PS If you go to the the Official site of Aust Electoral Commission, there's a heap of stuff about last election
http://www.aec.gov.au/pdf/profiles/divisional_profiles_2004.pdf

Also I'm told you can find the polling results at each and every polling booth last time (2004) ;) (not that I've found it yet)

That's really interesting. Can you tell us why you decided to vote Liberal?

Hi Julia, you,ve been the threads' oscillating bellweather. Which way did you finally jump in the upper and lower houses?

Re: WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR ???

lol
one of the options is "donkey vote" - scoring pretty well lol..
currently neck and neck with Libs preferences lol.

In Berowra the Labor "how to vote card" for house of reps has the squares numbered ....

6 (Family first)
5 (Liberal, Philip Ruddock)
4 Independent (Mick Gallagher)
3 Greens
2 Democrats
1 Labor (Michael Colnan
7 Christian Democratics

The donkey vote could be telling lol.
Especially with the education crisis ;).

I remember hearing of Bob Menzies once. Some lone heckler suddenly yelled out (as he was addressing a large crowd) "yeah but what about the worker!! " or some such .... and he muttered in a low voice "mmm - pause - sigh - I see we should have spent more on education!"

(snobby buga lol - witty but snobby nonetheless ;) )

Re: WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR ???

Liberal, of course! I can see the headlines now; Liberal shocks punters, & takes yet another win.

Re: WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR ???

I voted for David Fawcett and took an Inde .. in the House of Reps .

I may not like Howard , but I'm blowed if I'd vote for anyone linked to a communist socialist party , like our dear Julia G .

If she hadn't entered the race , I may have voted for Rudd .
