Hi all

I'm trying to understand the current situation so i looked back to the Great Depression but can't find any information on what sectors initially recovered. Can anyone shed some light on this?

cheers

Its very hard to say which sector has recovered as the whole economy is under depression. If you are thinking for some investment careful it is not the right time time for any type of financial planning, wait a while let stock market recover from the bad phase.

The Great Depression ended because of the Second World War, so in that particular example, they were led by commodities, military hardware and the like.

A technical analyst appearing on one of the Canadian business stations recently discussed what rises first after a normal recession. He was going so fast, I couldn't write it down in complete detail, but here it goes:

Number 1 was tires and rubber.

After that it was things like footwear, apparel and clothing, accessories, home building and home improvement, retail, etc. Basically, it sounded like anything that wears out while people are cutting back but then must replace.

Hope this helps.

it's a mug game predicting the future, the fact is no one knows that why they called future :D and current is present because it's a gift and you have it in hand right now :D

just try to buy company through your research that weather thick and thin
rather focus on a boom sectors.

can give you some sectors that I done research through thick and think doing ok.

Removal company
Gambling and betting company.
Everyday good company (food and general merchandise)
Soft drink company I can only name Coca-Cola because of their reputation and people preferences for them.

A friend in economis and politics told me the energy sector and real estate (like after the big depression). But real estate won't recover easily due to the subprime crisis.

As a blue, i have another question:
How long do you think we need to hold shares to get profit in this turmoil market? Usually the long term (3/5+ years) period is good enough to get some profit, but actually i'm thinking a 2 year period should be very profitable for someone (like me) who get in the share market now.

Surprisingly, spending on luxury items was largely unaffected by the depression. Gives you an indication of who it affected most.
