Volume data for CFDs

Hi All,

I was wondering if it is possible to get volume data for CFDs?

Most CFD providers supply it with there charts. Well I know IG did for ASX stocks.

The indexes can be tricky as they're mostly the providers market and they can't give accurate volume over it.

but you can see the volume for the underlying. Ie IG's Wall St look at the Dow Jones.

cheers

Hi All,

I was wondering if it is possible to get volume data for CFDs?

Are you after the volume traded with your CFD provider, the volume of the ASX(/SFE)-traded CFDs or the actual underlying stock volume?

Most CFD providers will give you the underlying stock volume only.

The actual volume of ASX-traded CFDs is disappointingly low. Let me know if you want to know any specifics because I have a direct feed from the ASX (SFE) for such CFDs.

Just the underlying stock volume.

I don't even get that, but I am trading and index cfd so its just marketmaker stuff.

Thanks for the offer Richard, that is very nice of you, but won't be necessary.

I have a trial with a provider up and running, so I am giving that a bit of a go right now.

I've also signed up with marketmaker and wondering where I can view volume. Did you have any success?

Hi DB,

In a word - nope. Just not possible.

However, what I have done is signed up for a free trial at (as recommended by someone in another thread) : http://www.boursedata.com.au/products/freetrials/default.asp

The trial only lasts for 2 weeks, but is very good. What I do is have an SPI chart open with volume on it, at the same time I have my CFD index up as well. It is not ideal, but what can you do? It is amazing the difference the volume data has made to my trading!

At this stage, my plan is to cash myself up a bit more and then drop the CFD provider and trade the SPI. As far as I can see, there are no disadvantages trading it directly, rather than a CFD equivalent.

Hope this helps DesignerBud
