URNM - BetaShares Global Uranium ETF

Uranium stocks continue to recover and went on a tear overnight. Must have been some news about a new reactor or agreement somewhere because POU didn't do much.

Hopefully our URNM follow suit. Been solid since the break up around mid/late Sep.

Just for the entertainment value..if any..mea culpa:
Is this:
1) a 50y old steam engine
2) The latest AI data center
3)a poisoned gift for the next 15000 year
4) a chance for free GMOs
5) a nice boost to the frog portfolio

Steam (H2O) from a nuke?

Steam (H2O) from a nuke?
Have to drive the turbines somehow, although the steam shown is from the cooling towers

I had it tagged as a breakout at close on Tuesday but neglected to buy it yesterday unfortunately. The unmentionable chart looks very positive. Up 7% this morning.

I had a not dissimilar experience with the NYSE listed Van Eck ETF NLR which reached an all time high last night and gave a YTD return of nearly 18%. I wasn't Uranium following as closely as you but only realised the surge in U stocks because of AI Data Centres and the need for Small Module Reactors SMR when I searched today.

With the timeline of 3+ and some say more years to be operational I'm still deciding whether to hop on now or to wait for these stocks to retrace to support.

@Sean K will be smiling today, all his commodity stocks and funds are greener by the day.

All the best for your trades @Country Lad

Steam (H2O) from a nuke?
Yes of course, most if not all power plants are giant hot water cauldrons, gas excepted which are using turbines..mr @Smurf1976 can confirm.
The white clouds scaring people being mostly steam generated by the water cooling towers as this plant is on main river, and would be similar on a coal plant
This is the powerplant i took a picture of.thanks to geolocalisation

Let's go back to the uranium thread: that plant as most in France is powered with mali niger ore, a threatened source in the current geopolitical world.
I am a long time bull for Uranium irrespective of my own feelings regarding civil nuclear use.

I read somewhere that the newer, smaller reactors, the SMR's providing energy for AI Data Centres will use salt as a coolant.

This also popped up a couple of days ago which might have given uranium companies a lift.

I'm not sure if Chris Bowen pays attention to these things though.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today opened applications for up to $900 million in funding to support the initial domestic deployment of Generation III+ (Gen III+) small modular reactor (SMR) technologies. DOE plans to use this funding—made possible in part by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law—to spur the safe and responsible deployment of advanced reactor technologies across the country and encourage follow-on reactor projects to support our nation's ambitious climate goals and meeting the growing demand for clean, reliable, and affordable power. Today’s announcement aims to assist the private sector in establishing a credible and sustainable pathway to deploying a fleet of Gen III+ SMRs across the country that advances environmental protection and community benefits, creates new, good-paying, high-quality jobs, and reinforces America’s leadership in the nuclear industry.

“Revitalizing America’s nuclear sector is key to adding more carbon free energy to the grid and meeting the needs of our growing economy—from AI and data centers to manufacturing and healthcare,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm. “Thanks to the President and Vice President’s Investing in America agenda, the nation’s nuclear industry is poised to lead the world in innovative advanced reactor technologies, which will create high-paying jobs while providing the flexible and reliable clean energy we need to support a thriving clean energy future.”

October 24 update: Multi year rally for uranium has started.

The surge to build large scale data-centres continues strongly. Recently GOOG, AMZN and AAPL have announced plans to ensure their DCs have a reliable sources of power. Nuclear power is a significant component in their plans. Plans to restart the former 3 mile Island reactor, conversion of coal power plants to nuclear power plants and plans to build SMRs have been announced. Uranium production will have to be increased to meet the demand. However this demand isn't short term, rather it's a medium to longer term trend (5 - 10yr).

I will maintain a bullish outlook for uranium producers for the next decade. They'll provide plenty of BYD trading opportunities during the next 5 yrs. I'll not be buying a uranium ETF and holding for 5 years as commodity price cycles are quite volatile. I'll trade frequently in this sector using the dips as entries.
