I suppose it's understandable when the insurance can cost up to $20K

Not sure what a cost effective solution would be. The Govt might as well step in a set up some scheme, because we seemto ba il these people out anyway, so they might as well put a bit more into the funding of it??
 
The insurance companies are still to pay out on some 2011 claims, they are legal theives.

On the other hand if I were an insurance company I would exclude some locations from my coverage from now on, it's just too risky.

Imagine trying to get insurance in parts of Qld now ?

Considering so many house have been knowingly build on flood plains around Brisvegas. Houses on stilts might have to come back into vogue, though not sure how they'd go with the tornadoes they go further north.

Fingers crossed the climate change predictions are off the mark, otherwise these kinds of freak weather events are going to have a sense of normalcy about them
