it's hardly desperate. Soviet rail guage is different to European .Related.
Baltic states desperately building a railway linked to Poland.
In Russia's shadow: The Baltics wait for Europe's strategic new railway
Building the link to western Europe has become more urgent as the Baltics see Russia as a threat.www.bbc.com
They are putting in the Euro gauge to get properly connected to Europe before the Russians are ready to expand. Estonia in particular has been threatened by Putin.it's hardly desperate. Soviet rail guage is different to European .
Russia uses the broad gauge, which is 1,520 millimeters (4 feet 11 27⁄32 inches) wide, also known as Russian gauge or CIS gauge. On the other hand, most of Europe uses the standard gauge, which is 1,435 millimeters (4 feet 8 1⁄2 inches) wide.
And the war keeps escalating.36 hours after the phone call between Scholz and Putin, as well as President-elect Trump's warning not to escalate, Russia launched its first massive winter missile attack.
According to official Ukrainian source:
"A massive combined attack targeted all regions of Ukraine. Overnight and this morning, Russian terrorists used various types of drones, including Shaheds, as well as cruise, ballistic, and aeroballistic missiles - Zircons, Iskanders, and Kinzhals. In total, approximately 120 missiles and 90 drones were launched. Our air defense forces destroyed over 140 aerial targets.
"Damage is reported to infrastructure, especially in Kryvyi Riv, where energy and water supply has been suspended. In Dnipro train infrastructure has been effected. Areas in Mykolaiv and Lviv have been struck as well. Human casualties have been reported across the country."
I would have thought that the Russin invasion of Ukraine was the beginning of a 3rd WW.Well this is pretty unbelievable, crickets? As some would say.
Zelenskyy says missiles will 'speak for themselves' after apparent US policy change allows Russia strikes
President Joe Biden has permitted Ukraine to use long-range missiles supplied by the US to strike targets inside Russia, in a major foreign-policy about-face one Kremlin source has described as "a very big step towards the start of World War Three".www.abc.net.au
In short:
President Joe Biden has permitted Ukraine to use long-range missiles supplied by the US to strike targets inside Russian territory, according to multiple US media reports.
It's a major policy change from the White House, which had previously insisted US weapons could only be used against Russia's forces in Ukraine.
What's next?
It is not clear when Volodymyr Zelenskyy's forces may use the new freedom, but a Russian politician has described it as "a very big step towards the start of World War Three".
Not really, because it is a limited war, Russia isn't in the position to use undue force, without backlash.I would have thought that the Russin invasion of Ukraine was the beginning of a 3rd WW.
The more help the Ukrainians get the better.
Dmitry Peskov would be proud of you.Well this is pretty unbelievable, crickets? As some would say.
Speaks for itself really.

Let's hope that doesn't ever happen. For Ukraine yes its limited.
Russia has thrown every thing at Ukraine except nuclear weapons.
I don't know why he would be proud of me, it boils down to common sense, which as we say isn't common.Dmitry Peskov would be proud of you.
What about the deterrent effect of the missiles?I don't know why he would be proud of me, it boils down to common sense, which as we say isn't common.
Currently Russia is actually losing, due to making no major inroads, as happened with the U.S in Vietnam.
Eventually the U.S had to withdraw, mainly due to public sentiment at home, the same in Afghanistan for both the U.S and Russia.
If Ukraine cranks it up a notch, well who knows where that ends.
Maybe you guys know?
Absolutely, but it has to be weighed up against the pros and cons. What about the deterrent effect of the missiles?
Surely Ukraine should be able to defend itself any way they see fit?
Absolutely, but it has to be weighed up against the pros and cons.
Will it be able to blow Russia into submission?
Or like the Afghans and Vietnam, do they just make the invasion a political noose around Putins neck?
It's a big call either way, but I always found when I bit off more tgan I could chew I got my ar$e kicked.
It is just strange that Biden, who seems to be struggling with personal issues, would make this call when he is basically a caretaker President, even that's a stretch when you consider Kamila has been the main focus.
I think if Trump did that it would be political suicide for the U.S and would be the end of the U.S, every Western country would abandon them.I think Biden is just trying to give Ukraine a fighting chance before Trump takes over and possibly hands Ukraine over to Putin.
? Maybe in the long term, but is Trump worried about that?and would be the end of them.
Like I said lets wait and see, if Biden had wanted to give Ukrain permission to escalate it, why wait untill he is voted out?? Maybe in the long term, but is Trump worried about that?
I don't think so.
Maybe he is growing a pair in his old age?Like I said lets wait and see, if Biden had wanted to give Ukrain permission to escalate it, why wait untill he is voted out?
Biden is bitter about the way he was treated by his "friends" in the Democrat party.Maybe he is growing a pair in his old age?
