True Wealth

I think of wealth a lot like Julia

So extrapolating that to nations and globally its more a measure of quality of life rather then assets, resources, technologies....

All these and more will have an impact, but surely things we fail to address in western countries like sustainability, social cohesion, transport efficiency, family unity, community spirit all factor into a measure of true wealth.....

Soul is moving down this path in terms f their economic development as is spain and a few other countries........whilst they may not measure first in anything, they may well rank well above other nations on averages......

As an example if we where all to work 80 hours per week for lower wages , we could massively improve our economic wealth as a nation and as an individual....the trade off would be the wealth of our lifestyles, relationships, character etc....

So I guess it comes back to the philosophies taught in year 7 Health - Its all about balance...

Sorry for taking so long to reply to your excellent posts condog and Julia.

There are two things which I feel are essential to true wealth.

The first is: Good Health

I know many non-muppets who have worked hard, done all the correct things financially, but have been cruelled by the dice of poor health.

Nothing separates us as much, not even financial wealth, one from another, as that which separates a sick person from a well one.

The second is: A Good Cigar

This follows on from my first point. While smoking is a health risk, the occasional daily sunset/sunrise cohiba, allows one to view the essential absurdities with a pleasant taste and nicotine hit. I encourage all my apprentices to develop this habit.

Dear Garpal,

If I may be so bold, I'd like to suggest that your apprenticeship programme entertain the idea of allowing the substitution of chocolate and caffeine for the cohiba. At a pinch, perhaps all three, along with a dram of good port, should be permitted?
