The Voice

Background on Advance Australia which funded and posted the "Don't worry Sweetheart" ad.

So who are these people and who funds them?

Read their speal total rubbish sounds like the Nazi Party no doubt will get a strong following from some here

Everyone regardless of ethnicity is free to compete - anyone gets too successful and they will be taxed accordingly. It's a basically sound model. It's why migrants and refugees only want to live in the cultural West. There will never be completely equal outcomes - luck plays a part in the game of life for sure, but inherent qualities are also significant. Personally I'd leave head of state stuff, for the time being at least, as is as it ensures a permanent tangible connection to a powerful state to which we have an enduring cultural affinity - also frankly that connection is literally what the ol' diggers were all about.

My family are full of old diggers none of them fought for a British Monarchy including vets after Korea none fu(king 0 but you right about the importance of the connection and its nothing to do with culture every thing to do with if and when we go to war with China the Britts will turn up wouldn’t count on the US especially if the Republicans are in.

I consider the ol' diggers those that fought in WW2 and especially earlier, basically - ya know the ones with all the monuments in parks. Certainly they didn't fight for the MONARCHY, but we would proudly be there whenever Britain called, though. There was a real sense of doing your duty as a southern outcrop of Britishness for the motherland. That British idealism should NOT be the ultimate determinant of what we do now regarding our heard of state arrangements, but it's worth mentioning as so many like to ascribe more abstract motives like "freedom" to the diggers around ANZAC Day. (WW2 itself was largely also about our self-preservation, though.)

Anyway, I don't wanna steer too far off course for the thread :p

The US will cover our backsides because of all the resources we have, the last thing they would want is China getting a hold of our resources during a war and Australia is also in a strategic geographical position to be a base to launch planes and boats in a hurry to cover the Indo-Pacific.

Not to mention Pine Gap

OK, so you agree that the Voice is racist. We can move on.

And, why be upset that Mayo singled out as a Commie, Comrade Bas, or whoever you are?
Ha Ha... You are special Sean and not in a good way...

I agreed The Voice was racist ? No Sean. That poisonous little ad decided to create a racist and dishonest story to ginger up its supporters. The implication that Mayo was the recipient of $2m ? As far as I can see quite dishonest. The Voice movement may be given $2m . Not Mayo.

And with regard to Mayo being a "commie" ? That is just another one of those poisonous red herrings in that piece. I noticed that Advance Australia has spent much energy highlighting any comment Mayo has made that can portray him as having communist sympathies.

Firstly "So what ? " Are we at the stage where someone can be trashed simply because others can cherry pick comments ? Well clearly so in this case

Secondly. I thought this was supposed to be a thoughtful, balanced discussion about the pros and cons of The Voice referendum ? The actual referendum folks, not simply trying to trash one of the participants and turn it into a food fight.

Going back to Advance Australia's 10 points on why The Voice referendum should be voted down. I didn't agree with them but I could see how they made a case. I also noticed how amazingly indigenous friendly they made the document. Lots of smiling, happy mixed families wanting to" go forward together".

And then when the rubber hits the road they fly their true colours.

And why was it not a racist depiction of the Chaneys?

Get in the sea you one eyed bigot.

You clearly don't understand that it's the entirety of the cartoon that makes it racist.

Some people cannot work out that the cartoon is racist because they are blind to what makes them a racist and can't see past that. Prominent in this group is Dutton, aside from some posters in this thread.

Dutton of course has come down on businesses that support the Voice, along with anyone else, but forgets that in the last decade ESG is one of the big movements that affects what they do. The "Social" component of ESG extends to driving positive change on a wide range of matters that can include the environment, climate or wellbeing. Given the Voice is about providing a better way ahead for indigenous people there are no moral or ethical impediments to companies who want to show their support. On the other hand, we see from the "no" campaign what has to be done to convince their bolted on racist supporters that they are on the right track.

The Government is attempting to focus The Voice on basic issues. Health, education, jobs and Housing. Certainly makes sense given these are core questions for everyone. IMV it would make it a more focused, potentially productive and even accountable body.

Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney says the proposed Voice to Parliament will be "nimble, efficient and focused on making a practical difference" for Indigenous people, while also criticising the No campaign for "damaging" disinformation.

Key points:

  • Linda Burney says she will ask the Voice to consider health, education, jobs and housing
  • The Indigenous Australians Minister says it will be gender balanced and include the views of young people
  • She says the No campaign "is post-truth and its aim is to polarise" by making false claims

In her speech to the National Press Club on Wednesday, she highlighted the need for a Voice to be enshrined in the constitution rather than legislated.

"A Voice … cannot be truly independent or give frank advice to the government of the day if the government of the day can abolish it", she said.

"Secondly, it is what First Peoples requested in the Uluru Statement from the Heart."

How will it work?

The speech came in the wake of recent polls showing waning support for the Yes campaign and amid constant criticism from the No campaign saying it is not clear how the Voice would work in practice.
Ms Burney aimed to answer this question in her speech.

"I will ask the Voice to consider four main priority areas: health, education, jobs and housing," Ms Burney said.
She also outlined key questions she would ask the representative body when she meets with it for the first time.

"Bring me your ideas on how we stop our people from taking their own lives," she said.

"Bring me your ideas on how to help our kids go to school and thrive, bring me your ideas on how we make sure our mob live strong and healthy lives."

Another example of where the problem isn't with the "Voice", it is with the listening, as has been said over and over it isn't as though Canberra doesn't already know the issues and there is nothing in the 'voice' that changes the reality. It just gives a lot of Canberra people a reason to pat themselves on the back and then get on with business as usual. IMO.

There is in fact everything in the Voice that can change that reality, as you put it.
Your points are vapid, as the Voice has nothing at all to do with politicians patting themselves on the back.
For the Voice to succeed, should it win the referendum, it's up to politicians to pull the collective fingers out and make their Departments lift their game in policy development and implementation.

Your Balgo link exemplifies the types of local problem solving initiatives that the Voice will build on, as distinct from broad brush policies that can be hit and miss. In fact, the Voice can show politicians how and why they have failed in the past, and will continue to if they don't take more notice of what is being shown to work.

Why would that happen the same useless sods will be there, that are there now and have been there for years in aboriginal affairs, what part of they are useless don't you understand?
Other than the fact that we have to put something in the constitution that has no power, to tell them that they are useless?

Those problems have been there for years and are there today, they are reported on every day, the jails are full of the results of the departments failures and know you are trying to say, "but they didn't know, they need to be told by a voice".
FFS you must think the general public is as brain dead as the Canberra fckn circus. :xyxthumbs

Well , Labor cancelled the cashless debit card against the advice of indigenous communities.

So if a government that says it's committed to listening doesn't, what hope is there ?

I have a bridge you might be interested in.

What you do not understand is how government works.
I worked on policy and implementation areas in Canberra and know that where there is a budget there is a way to make something work.
You assume that the Voice won't change anything, but it's you who does not understand how important it is for Ministers to make things work the way they were intended. So the political imperative, irrespective of who is in government, will be to make the Voice work. That would probably change if Dutton became PM as he would waste no time removing their budget and reallocating it to his cronies.
Those problems have been there for years and are there today, they are reported on every day, the jails are full of the results of the departments failures and know you are trying to say, "but they didn't know, they need to be told by a voice".
You are imposing your closed mind to what is possible to change. The fact you linked to a program in Balgo that works proves your mode of thinking is poorly based.

When you stop blaming the media and stop blaming politicians, and instead learn where the difference lies, your comments might get traction.

When you stop blaming the media and stop blaming politicians, and instead learn where the difference lies, your comments might get traction.
When people can start saying the truth on issues without fear of retribution and or media shaming, then things will change.

Not while the narrative is driven by a self serving media and self ordained cultural and social engineering group, who pass themselves off as politicians, while presenting failures in just about every aspect of society they touch.

The education system is a perfect example of social engineering imploding and presenting poor educational and social outcomes, our academic ratings and social behaviour in schools are both at all time lows.
As you are saying Canberra has failed the aboriginals, well actually take housing as an example, they have failed on that front too.
But who do they blame? The RBA, there is a common thread to all this, it isn't Canberra's fault, it's everyone else's fault.
Well the 'Voice" will be a great scapegoat wont it, "well the reps didn't tell us, they have a voice, we can't do more than that". :whistling:
Your answer to this, will highlight my case, as usual it will be three thousand word to say what can be said in three, but that's Canberra for you. ;)

Your post has absolutely nothing to do with the Voice.
In fact few of your posts have had much to do with the Voice.
You have been indulging in classic distraction, just as @Smurf1976 did earlier when his many examples were not relevant to the referendum proposal.

And you indulge in classic cancelling, discrediting or disproving, on the grounds of your arrogance and supercilious manner, which actually doesn't mean your right, only that you think your right. :xyxthumbs
Which is a trait you show on all subjects, not only the 'Voice" and is a common trait among bureaucrats and the very reason the voice looks like it will fail..
