It seems there are many stocks that investors are looking at as bargains at the present time. From what i can gather, there are some stocks that are deemed to be absolute bargains at current prices. I sense that many people today will be taking the view that if i buy i might lose another 5 or 10% but will probably regain that lost value in the short term and in the long term may well make quite a bit of money.

BHP is the one stock that i get this impression of the most. Do people agree with this line of thinking? Are there any other compelling buys out there?

Would like to just remind everyone not to recommend stocks as a 'buy' to others as that may well constitute the provision of financial advice, which is illegal for anyone other than licensed financial advisors to provide.

If you wish to make a case for a stock being 'undervalued' then that is fine, but please be sure to provide some reasoning to support your view.

I don't know about compelling buys and I'm not going to name individual stocks, but the housing (capital goods) sector seems to be holding up / turning. This sector got punished with the sub-prime thing and our own economic situation with interest rates, etc, but lately some stocks in this sector have started to turn. Even today in a sea of red some were positive. I suspect that investors have already factored in the fall in the housing market and are now preparing themselves for when this market starts to move again as interest rates start to come down over the coming months/years. I know I have.
