The Media

It's funny these days isn't it, we actually hold a singer, or an actor in such esteem that we actually care what their politics are, oh my how the world has changed. 🤣

Nah always been the case think of the 70's Vietnam war Dylan and numerous others protest songs etc, and before that conservatives were selling their souls to get photographed with the Beatles.

I never thought of it that way, I always just thought it was people getting fed up with the establishment, not a particular party.
It's a bit like all of a sudden to talk about China as a threat is ok, whereas a couple of years ago it was war mongering.
Buying subs was dumb, now it is ok, spending endless amounts of money on military is fine, a few years back it was a waste of money.
It just seems to be what the media push as the narrative at the time.

Yes but times change.

China is expanding so more defence spending is necessary to at least keep up the pretence that we can defend ourselves so the public don't panic.

Young people seem a lot less radical these days. At one time the mere idea of us buying nuclear subs would result in mass demonstrations in Hyde Park by the Students Socialist Alliance or whatever, these days there is barely a murmur.

Maybe they are have so much trouble paying their bills, everything else goes out the window.

I don't dissagree with that, but no one is singing about it and that's what we talking about.
As for nuclear subs, it was all a disaster three years ago and the media were wringing their hands about upsetting Macron for not buying their diesel powered poluters. Lol
The narrative has changed, as is normal these days.

It is really interesting the reporting of the student who shot at the school, it was lead into by being called "The first school shooting incident in Australia", on the ABC classic news headline.

I wonder if we will have the second very soon, it is a very sensational headline, but what else can you expect? Very emotional stuff.

So juvenile detention what a joke Kid gloves stuff and a slap on the wrist. What is needed is old school coppers from the North west showing these morons how they should be treated.
When we first moved up to the Hills 40 odd years ago there was one family who were causing lots of grief.
Local Sgt doing his last 3 years before retirement had only just come down the from the North West.
Within a week or two this mob of miscreants soon learnt right and wrong.
The good old nightstick was put to very good use.
Amazing what several whacks behind the knees will do and a few in the guts to get the message home.

Yeah, once the ABC gets hold of the story it will be all about brutal cops and racism.
Yet if some drug addled idiot beats the crap out of a pensioner, while robbing them, it is because of a deprived childhood and excusable.
We are a weird society and we wonder why school children are attacking teachers, we actively promote their right to be disrespectful.

I can beat that story :) In the 70's Dad after giving up farming used to run sheep on our hills property which was 100 ares.

Neighbours (about 1 km away) dogs used to come over and maul the sheep, Dad spoke to them about it and got told to F off so phoned up the police station in Mundaring to ask what he could do about it.

The Sergeant and a Constable came out in uniform to have a chat.

Dad invited them in and offered the officers a beer which they happily accepted.

The Sergeant got straight down to business told Dad to yard some sheep wait for the dogs to set foot on the property and shoot them no questions asked.

Afterwards Dad went back to the neighbours and told them the legal status and that he would be forced to shoot the dogs if they kept mauling the sheep, got told to F off.

Anyway dogs got shot neighbours had to come a remove the carcases end of story but a sad day for all.

Some years later switched to cattle as more people moved in and let their dogs roam free.

That would never happen now.

Shame everyone understands pain
Yes, eventually it will go full circle, but the mainstream population has to realise not everyone is nice, some just like to hurt people.

Until then we will go down the hug and embrace path, then eventually the elites start and get affected as the social issues spread, then once that happens change in the narrative occurs.
Pretty normal really.

One of New Zealand’s two major free-to-air TV networks has gutted its newsroom, putting more than 200 people out of work after years of losses and continued structural decline in TV advertising.

In a decision that has profound implications for the wider TV market, including in Australia, Newshub, which is owned by $US21 billion ($33 billion) US media conglomerate Warner Bros Discovery, will slim down at the expense of hundreds of jobs by June.

The company blamed a poor advertising market and changing viewer habits for the decision. It leaves the state-owned – but advertising funded – TVNZ network as the sole remaining source of free TV news.

It has taken many years for the owners of News to convert their customers to paying subscribers.

This will have a kick on effect decreasing salaries to the stars of morning and evening TV and giving power back to the owners.

Overall it is all good imo. I had thought that "free" News would lead to greater veracity in reportage. It hasn't. All that has happened is a democratisation and a march to inanity with sectional interest reporting.

Statement of Interest : I am unable to work two flickers on a TV and often end up watching David Attenborough when wishing to find out why a gay copper in NSW has killed his ex boyfriend and his lover. You make your own luck.

Well the social media giants, paying Australian media outlets for news content, didn't last long.

Facebook owner Meta says it won't renew commercial deals with Australian news media companies worth millions of dollars.

Three years ago, the company signed deals with Australian news outlets following the introduction of laws requiring tech giants to pay for displaying news on their platforms.

The deals were due to expire in the next few months and had provided Australian media companies, including the ABC and Nine, with up to $200 million, according to the government.

In a statement, Facebook said its users were not coming to its platform for news and political content and that it would invest its money elsewhere.

The only social media I'm on is ASF, but the 4 kids and 8 grandkids are all into it.
I can't get over the fact the daughter and grandkids that live with us, only stream t.v, when we extended the house to facilitate them moving in, I ran extra aerial outlets and an amplifier.
Well that was a waste of money, they aren't connected to free to air, but funnily enough we have to go halves with them for $100/ mth internet that we don't use. Lol
The other thing is @wayneL , if I was having to pay for the news that is dished up, I wouldn't pay for it either.
