i have to say good and bad , the internet has its good and bad side like most things, too much information is available the internet has a sort of Genie effect where instant information is always there at your wish. still the good side outweighs the bad side.

I am one of the pre-3GL interface generation. There was an internet when I started studying at uni in the early 90's but it was based on a MUD and you had to know how to use a Unix vi editor and constantly ping an I.P. address to see if you're connection had dropped out and re-connect. How times have changed? For the better that's for sure. :D

I remember doing that too!!

(but don't remember what it was called. They say memory is the first thing to go).

Cheers

Without the Internet I wouldn't have a job, and most of the stuff I've been doing at uni the last few years would be completely irrelevant. More importantly though, where else am I going to find pterodactyl pr0n?

GumbyLearner - I use vim daily, and I don't think IP has changed much since the 80s* (well, there's a version 6 now but nobody really uses it...).

I have to completely disagree with your comment about the Internet being a *subset* of the telephone. The telephone was around for decades before the internet and it didn't change the world to the same extent. If anything, voice is just one of the many applications of electronic communication. Would we be communicating right now if all we had at our disposal were telephones? The internet has almost completely changed the way we live and work, at least for some people/industries - the telephone just made it easier to talk to people who weren't in the same room :)

I love the internet and probably couldn't live without it....but I am concerned that we rely on it far, far too much.

There is alot of easily acsessable info on the net...some good...some anything but good. My concern is over the not so good stuff that you can easily find using the trusty mobile phone and internet that virtualy everybody has.

I think the bad stuff on the net will desensitise the human race further in the coming decades. Its probably to blame for the morals of society ever decreasing.

But gee its fantastic for free stuff!!:) oh and connecting people.

Anyone ever seen Escape from New York with Snake Pliskin....yeah I could see that happening.
